If so many households had people retiring and paring back to one income (IOW, AT HOME!!) why the hell are we paying for their child care?

Oh I see, so the government now has a way to predict people’s income months before they even earn said income and give them an advance! 
Do you realize how dumb that sounds? If people are at home, not working, that means they aren’t earning any income to tax, so they have no rebate coming. And again, why are people who never lost any income receiving money??
Here’s a thought: instead of paying people to stay home, why not insist they go out and work at these millions of jobs that are needed? That way, they can go back to earning money like they were doing before and earn the money to pay for their own child care! And besides, what you call a rebate isn’t at all a rebate is it? See a tax rebate is merely getting back the difference in what you paid compared to what you owed. What you are alluding to is one of the latest and greatest of bribes Libs introduced fairly recently where people actually get back WAY MORE THAN THAT DIFFERENCE. Of course it’s given such an innocuous name; Child tax credit. But we both know that in reality it’s nothing more than the government stealing money from some who earned it and redistributing it to someone else who didn’t actually earn it! But that’s the thing about you Libs, you’re always so willing to give the needy the shirt off someone else’s back!

Child care costs enough now that it doesn’t make sense to work full time just to pay somebody else to watch the kids. Might be another reason some people aren’t going back to work, you think?
So why aren’t people who are not working not trying to find work, which is how they become statistically “unemployed”.

That is down 2 points post pandemic and can be explained by people taking early retirement and two income households becoming one income households.
As I keep saying… there was a labor shortage before the pandemic… the pandemic made it worse.
