The Curious Case of Kilmar Abrego Garcia (Part 2)

Does it?

On this forum that could turn into a 10,000 post debate

The supreme said his sole recourse was habeas corpus, or a plea to release him, and that had to be brought where he was being held. Which was Texas.

Thanks for admitting you think the principle of no imprisonment without due process is a ā€œleft wing talking pointā€.

It’s not that I don’t like it, it’s just that everything there is to say about it was said in the original thread … many times.

I know … I just piggy backed on your post since it was also just a comment.

I need to ask you to stop making stuff up. @DisturbedGuy promised to quit repeating himself if I do.

There are strong opinions on both sides of the argument. This is just sparring over the issue waiting for the next shoe to drop. Eventually, the events will play out and we’ll find out who was right and who was wrong. Then, the winners get to gloat about it.

Yes … repeated over and over and over and over and over … without ever coming to a conclusion. Which of course, will not come until the Court rules. That conclusion was reached a couple thousand posts in.

If we did that, this place would become boring pretty fast. The bickering over positions is what keeps this place interesting.

So you don’t think repeating the same arguments over and over multiple times is boring? :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

I think new arguments get mixed in from time to time.

Hopefully the next news update we get is that Garcia and the government have agreed on a 3rd country for his removal and this saga is over.

Then it was never optional like you said in scenario 2.

he who ignores history, repeats it.

july 7th in the ongoing saga.

just to think this could have all been avoided had the admin followed the correct process to deport Garcia.

I don’t know man, if I was Abrego Garcia - given his situation - and the government offered me free transportation for my wife and kids to a neutral country for residence, where we’d be free and not in a Human Storage Facility in that country…

I might consider it with some conditions:

#1 It would involve something similar to witness protection where my family and I would drop out of sight with name changes.

#2 There would be no confinement of any type.

#3 A settlement from the government - tax free and in cash*** - something in the multi-millions of dollars. They help set me up for a new life, pay a settlement for unlawful imprisonment and I will promise not to sue. Which given the case he has is probably very winnable.

*** - I mean really an account they can put the money into but not take the money out of. Probably in a foreign bank the US Treasury can’t finagle.

Not following the correct procedures are the point.

They need good metrics so they can brag about what a great job they are doing.

You can’t do that by respecting people’s rights and following the rules.

That absurd statement is one of the talking points I’m referring to.

Due process isn’t the LW talking point. Claiming conservatives don’t support it is the LW talking point.
