It had better not be with my kid.
Call_me_Ishmael: FreeAndClear:If they were indoctrinating negative views on homosexuality and positive views of creationism, I have a feeling there would be a lot less talk about indoctrination and more talk on the importance of those subjects…
Are there no negative aspects of homosex? Is there no reason to discuss intelligent design.
Health class should be taught in high school. That can discuss the health reppercussions of unprotected homosexual sex, along with the reppercussions of unprotected heterosexual acts. The psychological ramifications can’t be and should not be taught in school though again counseling is proper.
Intelligent design is not science. We teach Greek Mythology in schools, can be taught in the same class.
EXACTLY why I don’t want leftists teaching at all.

Why is that?
Just as I do not think Cops should be handling mental health crises, I don’t think teachers, however well intended, should be handling adolescent psychologic issues. These are highly vulnerable kids who need expert guidance and advice which should be left to folks who know what they are doing. Otherwise, it is vulnerable to the advocacy of the teacher, whether against or for, and that isn’t in the best interest of the child.
If a kid is feeling pressure, whether it be identity, depression, or anything else a board certified social worker or psychologist should be made available by the school district. And that staff should follow all legally required laws concerning consent and parental involvement.
A kid who is troubled needs professional help, not well intentioned but possibly unqualified help. Parents should be involved given the circumstance, although if it involves incest or other abuse by the parent there should be some consideration there.
While all true, a trusted teacher is most likely the first non-parent adult with whom a troubled child will confide in first.
mot1man:Negative. I sure don’t. Not until some idiot adult broaches the subject with them.
I have a conservative friend who’s daughter knew she was a boy from the age of 5. The girl is 9 now and wants her hair to be short, has never worn a dress, consistently tells people she is a boy. Her parents are not forcing her to be trans… they are actually trying to do the opposite.
100% when she is old enough, she will fully transition.
I DO NOT BELIEVE YOU.

ITS A PERSONAL ANECDOTE, SO YOU DONT HAVE TO.

Question for you. If the child says it is a boy. How is it that you know it’s a girl? And if you say … her parents told you… how do they know? DNA check?
Whew! I was getting ready to feel guilt.
Is it the Greek mythology comment?

Nothing wrong with that, but that teacher’s first response should be “Let me get someone to help you, and I will support you in any way I can”.
Not that complicated.
I can’t comment on the article specifically because I don’t know what the kid herself said, only what adults are saying. I don’t know what her opinion of herself is.
However, while I believe there are truly some people that are trans I also think that becoming LBGTQ is becoming a trend, which is somewhat discouraging. The whole point of coming out is being authentic about who you truly are and the trend negates that- no one’s sexual identity or gender identity should be used as a frivolous trend. Instead, being yourself should be the trend.
I remember visiting a middle school gym teacher 2 years ago and almost every girl in the locker room was claiming that she was a lesbian.
Also let me point out that some kids experience gender dysphoria as a result of sexual abuse. Some might feel weak, that if they were a boy, they wouldn’t have been targeted.
Sexual abuse is truly heinous in the way it can affect someone’s identity. I wouldn’t wish it on anyone.

You think teachers get too much praise?

Teachers, soldiers, police…
As collectives, you betcha.

It’s an interesting question. Teachers are often berated especially by parents and it certainly seems that it is a thankless job but a lot of that is perception. Teachers are thanked praised etc on a daily basis. But for purposes of clicks and eyeballs bad teachers are a better sell. They even made a movie in the 90s where the teachers were evil aliens!!! The faculty.
In a lot of ways they fall into the same category as cops.
Is it the Greek mythology comment?
Nope.
Not only that . It’s the parents who have to deal with the consequences.
