I dont believe you need a battleship cannon in space… Sure would be nice, but if you were able to fire a golf ball sized projectile with some accuracy, could shoot down enemy bombers… Shoot a hole through a plane and it will cause issues… Loss of cabin pressure, shoot a hole through a wing, rupture a fuel tank, it wouldnt be pretty.
The larger the weapon, the larger the ship and crew. You take a small crew to one numbering in the hundreds. 40 to 60 billion dollars a year to resupply? About 80 to 100 space x rockets to resupply the ship… Requiring food, products, repair parts, upgrade parts, fuel for the ship, ammo than need crew rotation… 3 to 8 at a time? Per rocket? You need a system where everything goes up and can come back down. For that to work it cant be that large. Otherwise upkeep cost will kill the program. The only other option would be massive rockets, capable of delivering a semi load into space. Which would likely cost over a billion per launch.
Seeing NASA no longer does… It likely will be used as a reason to eliminate it. Than Space Force will take over, with private companies doing the grunt work…
The movie under siege 2… Termenator, cylons, the 1980s movie were the computer played war games with live weapons systems thay were automated. Drones are not the basket to put all your eggs in.
What happens in 8 to 12 years when a democrat is elected president again… And leaves the satellite defense codes on there unsecured server? Or sells the information for donations to their personal charity for there vacations and travel?
Drones weaknesses arent revealed yet… Against a competent enemy they likely will be jammed, or hacked and used against us. Everyday hundreds of Russians and Chinese are working on this goal for a decade, they have tricks up their sleeves by now.
