Should 11-year-old girls have to bear their rapists' babies? Ohio says yes

Really? Where have you gotten your facts? Where did you learn about eclampsia? Are you a doctor? What is your experience with this?

Even the government does not recommend abortion to remedy this condition. This article is by the National Institute of Health. I find it odd that you would be simply dismissing it without any actual evidence of your own.

Then make a local law in that situation. I will never suggest we make a law covering an entire state or the entire country for the one off situation in a town that only has one doctor. That work for you?

Now you’re moving the goal posts. I answered your questions, and now you’re trying to twist my answers to support logical fallacies. I won’t play this game with you. Both your and Sotto’s arguments are flawed; you have nothing left. But you won’t change your minds upon new insights.

Can you provide evidence to back that up?

I am. Interventional Radiologist. My scope of practice is broad but I deal with partum and postpartum women on a routine basis. Years of schooling and private practice have led me across enough women with eclampsia to know it is a devastating condition for which you do not delay treatment.

I’m not sure what goal posts I’m moving. I was just responding to your compensation argument.

I’m not trying to pick on you or anything. No one on this forum has a good response for why we treat Christian religious objections differently than Native religious objections. You’re smart, but justifying this sort of thing is a futile task.

Then you should know that while a prior abortion provides a protection against the condition, it is weaker than a prior delivery? My apologies for my outburst, and skepticism.

Thankyou for clarifying. I agree, though, that there is no simple answer to either issue. It involves a lot negotiation, and it may even be a case-by-case basis, given that everyone’s circumstances are different.

How many times does the NA religious beliefs largely entail anything other than the infringement of land rights, as opposed to life and death medical issues.

Flame…Soto has given his credentials, as have I. What are yours, not making a point, just want to know? It seems like you are not just reading this and posting. Are you in the medical field too?

I believe that many Native tribes would consider the DAP or other abuses of their land as a life or death issues (they’re right of course).

Nevertheless, none of this justifies treating Native religious objections differently than Christian religious objections.

EDIT: Christina religions is a funny typo.

I worked at Barnes and Noble once. That’s where I get my expertise.

No need to apologize. That’s something I’ve purposefully refrained from stating on this board because I don’t want to come across and high and mighty. I do think at times there is a disconnect between what actually happens in the hospital and what articles or other media likes to portray.

Eclampsia is variable and can be extremely severe to the point of even anesthesia is deferred in order to perform delivery. There may be protective predictors although nothing is definite. When it happens and conservative therapy isn’t immediately effective, there is only one option.

Of course it would be. Just a sentence at the end - “her rapist is in jail,” or “her rapist got off with a slap on the wrist” or “her rapist is suing to make sure she can’t abort the child because, after all, it’s his too.”

AS pre-medicine. Will be taking the MCAT next semester. I know it’s not much (and I probably sound arrogant) but this is a topic that interests me. I’ve learned a lot and wI’ll continue to learn.

No…all good. I felt that you were medical, and wanted to be sure. You did not seem to be plugging and chugging medical links.

My favorite field in my degree was epidemiology. I love the study of illnesses and progression and especially out of that risk mitigation.

Of course someone’s religious beliefs are a concern that is everyone’s business. Some gay guy goes in for his HIV meds and the pharmacist denies him the meds because homosexuality is against his/her religion. His/her customer is denied medication that any other pharmacist would dispense without question. The customer is impacted and shouldn’t be.

Good luck. MCAT scores and grades are important. Even more important is experience/volunteer work. Everyone applying has good MCAT scores and grades. Med schools want you to prove you’re interested and committed to being a doctor.

In the middle of winter someone breaks into your house assaults you, steals your money, escapes into the night. You come to and dress your wounds and find the home invader has left a baby in your kitchen. You are snowed in, the lines are down and you have no way of safely getting the baby to some other minder. Should you be excused if you kill the baby, chop it up and flush it down the toilet because it’s going to disrupt your lifestyle for a few months.
