Now I find this ironic. Taking one forgotten man’s name off of a building so another man won’t be forgotten. In 40 years it is likely a new unforgettable person will replace McCain’s name on that building.

May well be. The Junior HS I went to changed it’s name to a different figure from history the year after I graduated.

Richard Russell was a segregationist and an opponent of Civil Rights, filibustering against the Civil Rights Act. Taking his name OFF the building would be a great idea anyway.

I won’t bag on Southerners, for the simple reason that many of the most racist people I ever encountered, including some of my own family, were from Pennsylvania and never had a connection to the South in their life.

And the ideological descendants of Richard Russell LONG ago migrated to the Republican Party.
