Norman Lear wrote Archie Bunker’s character to poke fun at certain conservative positions and to create a caricature of conservatives in general. Carroll O’Connor as a person was the antithesis of the character he played. the show and the character were controversial, but the intent was clear, and never warranted the censor’s sword.
I think Roseanne Barr was trying to create the same thing in some respects, but didn’t handle the “fine line” well. (And I’m ashamed for any conservatives who chose to get into her fleabag bed in support of her show.)
I still expect her to come out some day and admit that she was playing everyone, and laugh at the boobies she caught in her booby trap – on either side.
Oh I will say what is on my mind. I don’t have to run anything by the left.

Why would she know that? Casual racism and ugliness on social media is cheered by tens of millions of conservatives. She likely thought it was just another button to be pushed that would cause some controversy and drive ratings. It does such for the other folks on the show who are now out of a job because the star is an ignorant bigot.
