Because they “love” the traffic jams, high taxes, high crime rates, extremely high cost of living, over flowing with illegals, homeless, draconian covid restrictions and socialist leaders in general.
It’s disconcerting to me to see the bickering about why this-place or that-place is better to live in (or worse.)
No matter what we see, any place has its charms and its drawbacks.
The thread might have focused on LA – and particularly the wealthy parts of LA. Gang activity that previously was not found in such locations is finding its way into places that hadn’t previously seen it. It’s not limited to wealthy parts of LA.
Some time in the recent past I recall discussion in a thread about gang activity in a place where it seemed surprisingly out of place. (I think it was a town in Idaho, if I recall.)
We’re facing a degradation of societal standards that contributes to this. Some will bring up charts trying to show a decrease in crime since some previous date, but that doesn’t change the reality – the growing reality – of crime, both petty and violent – seemingly surrounding us, even in places we thought were safe from such occurrences.
Somewhere in the early posts in the thread someone brought up an expected increase in private security. I think it also encourages people who wouldn’t otherwise be a gun owner to purchase self-defense arms.
Our culture needs to take a good look at itself and recognize what it is fomenting. We are not heading in the right direction.
Now that I’ve rounded 40, I also despise the cold and have no need for winter.
I’m looking forward to spending winters in my sixties in a southern college town where I can be the weird old guy at uni who’s way too enthusiastic in class.
I am in Bora Bora and I have never in my life seen a more beautiful place gonna miss it.
Also personally I can’t stand LA, too big, too crowded, too much sprawl.
North County San Diego is honestly the best in South Cali IMO
Right on the edge of Camp Pendelton even Oceanside which butts against the military base has turned from a once seedy downtown to just amazing destination still semi affordable
It would be amusing, although likely not legal in California, to deliberately set up an ambush of these predators.
Send a couple of girls out to flash some jewelry and merchandise and have them drive to a single family residence. When the predators follow them in, have plenty of firepower ready to ventilate their car to hell and back.
Again, probably not legal in California, but a nice thought.
Yosemite is spectacular…I live about 3 hours away…been there dozens of times.
But we also have Lake Tahoe…and Death Valley. Oh, and amazing beaches. From warm sandy ones, to rocky picturesque ones that are also spectacular. Big Sur comes to mind.
Like wine? Napa Valley…there is even more…but I will stop.
I was the one who posted that thread, which I believe was about Iowa. I have read about other similar trends across the US in towns not typically known for this type of violence. One of the things you will also find out as you look more into this is that 50% of the gang members across the US is Hispanic. If we think that this current situation is bad let’s see how it will be in 5-10 years from now as 20,000 of the world’s impoverished citizens flow across the border and are sent to many communities across America.
