Put down the burger and back away ma’am

Seriously what has happened. I’m getting older closing in on the big 40 but still I remember back in high-school there was like one fat guy and one fat girl and that girl probably weighed the average weight of today’s females. Yes that’s been 20 years ago but it wasn’t the dark ages ago and we had fast food just like today.

What happened? I can’t blame in on the internet as we had that, we had PlayStation, Nintendo etc and all those things to just sit inside but most of us didn’t.

“This article was reviewed by Craig Primack, MD, FACP, FAAP, FOMA.

If you’re looking for straight answers, here they are: The average weight for women in the U.S. is 170.8 pounds, and the average height is 5 feet, 3 inches tall. These are mathematical calculations, so they don’t necessarily represent what’s typical or healthy for you as an individual.”

I’m going to chalk some of it up to processed foods, sugar and an inactive life style.

Both the wife and I are about 25 pounds overweight. Not too shabby for 70-year-olds.

Holy crap, 170 pounds? You’ll get a nasty cramp in your leg trying to carry Betsy over the threshold.

You were born when I was graduating high school, but it was very similar for me. One fat kid for every 100 students. It seemed that way. We had no internet, but we had Atari and Intellivision.

In my early 20s I’d say most women were around 125 pounds. In that area. I was always around 50 pounds heavier at 5’11. I think that is still relatively normal, with the exception of a lot more heavy set people we didn’t see a lot of before.

Because…now people have to have both parents employed or one to have 2 jobs to make the ends meet.
No time for long walks, gym etc.
Proof? There is talk of extending even further the retirement age to 70.
In Europe they retire at 55 in most places.
No time to prepare/shop for healthy foods so let’s get the TV dinners.
Life is getting busier and more demanding so no time is left for taking care of our self. Everyone wants to keep up with new technology and beat the Johnsons next door with more and better stuff. Someone has to pay for all that. Answer? Get a second job.

When you say retirement age, do you mean to collect SS?

Are you saying working more is making people fatter? That is an interesting take. I would hate to be in that situation.

Nothing has changed in the last 40 years except the food. Today’s kids sitting around on the tablet are yesteryear’s kids turning into couch potatoes in front of the TV.

Europe has a better work life balance due to many things. Culture, tradition, laws that ensure PTO is available, and enough income to actually do something on that PTO. We could strive to get there, but we have corporate America running almost everything, and the bottom line is by far the most important variable. Sadly, if there is a suggestion to embrace some of those ideals, it is labeled socialism.

I agree. But mentioning this gets you labeled as lazy. I like to say I’ve beaten the system with a great work/life balance. But I really haven’t. Only comparatively speaking. It’s just hard to demand something from your employer. You’re there working for them. They make the rules. As a result, I’ve worked for unions for over 35 years.

Most EU countries are unionized much more then the US, that is a big part of it. Corporate America has done a great job of demeaning unions. Unions are far from perfect, but talk to most that are in a union today, and they are quite pleased with their compensation and benefits.

I hear Europe is best place in the world to live.

Some of it is.

By all means feel free to avail yourself of the opportunity.

Gee, that is original

I seem to recall, from previous conversations, that you admire European countries. A lot. By all means don’t let the door hit you on the way out.

Double downing on being even less original?

It probably comes in the form of processed food,
but by ingredient here is what it is (seems to be anyway):

Wait.

It’s the chem-trails.

That’s what it is.

I always try to do a good job. Not embarrassing myself by being a piece of crap. But ultimately, I work for me. It’s a no brainer, unions are in my best interest. I was a Clinton Democrat and a 3rd party voter most of my life. That has changed. I’m in NJ, and the mainstream Democrats are so far left that they are in the Pacific Ocean. It’s hard to vote for them.
