Should be more specific.

The institution of slavery in the US.

Nice…

Mmmmm

And if it is based on race?

Was just like all other forms of slavery, human trafficking for economic gain. The fact that the slaves originated in Africa was simply because powerful African Tribes on the coast made them available for trade. The slave trade within Africa predates the founding of the Egyptians. Sub Saharan slave trade existed in 5 BC. The Indian Ocean slave trade dates back to 2,500 BC. The Muslim slave period out of Africa began in the 9th Century AD and officially ran through 1920. Unofficially, I witnessed routine checkpoints in the Middle East as late as 1999 specifically set up to catch runaways. The Atlantic Slave trade didn’t begin until the 15th century. And Europe had its own ongoing slave system of Europeans in bondage for debt and imprisonment into the early 19th century. One of my ancestors was held in this position for a period of his life.

So no, the institution wasn’t about race at all. African nations were the primary suppliers for the market, and profited handsomely from the trade. Europeans purchased the slaves for economic reasons (slaves are cheaper than paid workers) and got them from Africa because that was location of the primary suppliers. Now individuals developed and advocated racist attitudes to justify dehumanizing the slaves and justify the institution. And not everyone held those views, or needed to rationalize slavery.

They were also taken.

I’m going to stop you right here. What in the ■■■■

I realize that you were targeted for ingrained racial animus in your CRT indoctrination and any push back triggers the discomfort used to instill the lesson. But that does not change the fact that the North Atlantic slave trade and slavery in the US was an economic motivated institution, not a race motivated one. And while there was some slave raiding by Europeans, 90%+ of the African slaves sold into the North Atlantic market were captured and sold by the established African nations on the West Coast of Africa. It was just economically cheaper and easier to buy them from an African Slave Broker. Slave holders in the new world switched from Europeans to Africans for the same reason, because it was easier and cheaper.

Racist views developed towards the slaves within the elites of the Population, the ones actually wealthy enough to afford to purchase and maintain slaves. And as those elites held positions of influence and authority, their bigoted views spread. Sadly among humans bad attitudes, especially against some one who isn’t from our own group, spread way too easily. But when we actually get to know people individually we find out that the bigotry is unjustified. But some will refuse to let go of that ingrained hatred, taking it heart and holding onto it for dear life, because to do otherwise would mean seeing themselves in an unflattering light.

This is non sense. Don’t need CRT to understand the facts of slavery in the US. Don’t muddy your arguments.

It cant be both economics and racism?

Imma need a citation on that 90% number.

Either way… it is what they did to the slaves once they reached our shores… that’s the issue.

Yes, poor whites had zero racial animosity towards black slaves or freedmen. where do you get this stuff?

It only took 350 years for the majority to realize it. But it was the elites fault that poor whites hated black people.

Someone might consider me as a doctor’s kid as privileged because I was upper middle class.

But I never got to see my mom often, especially when I was younger because she was doing moonlighting to pay off student debt. She also worked long days, and took stress out on me, had trouble switching from “doctor” to “mom.” At least other kids had parents who could parent properly and be there for them, and probably have mental health privilege as a result.

Privilege is a shallow concept with too many holes.

What do you need it for then?

Omigod projection.

Wait! The switch!

I thought this was interesting:

Some members of my community appear to interpret this part of board meetings as the occasion to tell board members why they have the collective intelligence of a village idiot and how the school district ought to be addressing real problems. When the board does not fall in line with each and every demand, we are accused of ignoring the thoughtful, unbiased, sincere and righteous ultimatums of our community.

The collective village idiots went to schools run by school boards.

No, I don’t work for you. I was elected by people who voted to represent you.

I don’t understand this one.

From what I can see, he appears to be a criminal defense lawyer; aka an education expert.

So if my children are biracial, 1 parent went to college, 1 is homosexual, 3 are Christians, 1 is atheist, 1 kid is military, 1 is in law enforcement, 1 is a musician, 1 is a stoner hopping from job to job, some had their own room, some didn’t. 2 are bilingual, 2 are not. 2 are college educated, 2 are not. 1 is female 3 are male. All have lost someone they loved.

Which one is privileged?

I forgot to mention, 1 is very light skinned, 2 medium toned skin, 1 dark skinned.

I remember reading something in a discussion group many years ago that made a lifetime impression on me:

A woman was lamenting that people were smarter than her. If I recall, she worked as a maid. Had she been born smarter she could have been this or that, etc.

Someone responded that people are born with the attributes, personalities and intelligence to fulfil their purpose in this life. Everyone’s purpose is God given which makes it unique, special and a very important role in this world.

Instead of calling out privilege what educators should be doing is discovering the unique abilities each child has and developing them so they can reach their potential.

There was a culture that existed of a husband and a wife. They had children. He went to work and financially provided for his family. She stayed home and raised the children and cared for the family unit. They went to church and were guided by Biblical principles. This mindset was very productive to the country and it grew stronger and stronger and stronger. The problem is, that in life, this is the mindset of the little piggy that built their house of bricks. Now there are many, many, many little piggies that have built their houses of straw and guess what happened? The big, bad wolf of life has come and blown their houses down. The privilege isn’t based on skin color. The privilege is saying no to the many temptations of this world and placing your personal responsibilities ahead of them and the number one responsibility is the family unit. Now meditate on that.

That’s probably not logistically feasible and it really isn’t the purview of public school.

The purpose of the public education system is to achieve a lowest common educational denominator for the good of the state and public order.

And to increase the literacy rate among draftees to facilitate training.

It has nothing to do with “best for the child”.
