Yes. I agree with you. This was not a smart move by ABC News, intentional or not. It severely hurts their credibility. But, this does not negate the real news that is reported everyday, including the real news that is unfavorable to Trump.

A production manager sets the screen and determines if they want gun booms or doves landing on a pear tree in the background.

I suppose running Holocaust footage would have been easier to spot as a fake.

What little cheap shot? Of course from your “perspective it was not intentional”. The media (and that’s what it is) could shoot someone on 5th Avenue and you would call it an accident.

Even if it was intentional, ABC said it’s doing an investigation. I think what people are saying is that FOR now we assume it was a mistake. Some publications deserve the benefit of the doubt. However if it was intentional, that individual should be fired.

It seems like we should all be in agreement on on a couple of points:

1. It is wrong to show video that represents events happening in one part of the world as being events that are happening in another. (I mean stock footage of people crossing a street is one thing, but news and current events should be held to a higher standard of accuracy.)

2. It is unethical to intentionally mislead viewers with this sort of fake video tactic.

If we agree on those points, it might be a good time to remember that Trump launched his campaign with this kind of deception. The footage in his first campaign ad implied that our border was being overrun by invaders, but the actual video shown in his ad was news footage shot years ago, on another continent.

You mean like telling the nation that areas of the country not under threat of a hurricane were under threat of a hurricane and using a Sharpie on a map to indicate that?

See that was an example of spreading fake news that we know was deliberate and the spreader of that fake news was forgiven. So why aren’t the people who forgave Trump for spreading that fake news also forgiving ABC for this fake news as well?

Nice deflection but it does not change the point that was being made. The point is that Trump literally launched his campaign using the very same “tactic” his supporters now accuse ABC of using.

Yet his supporters are not willing to disavow everything he said from that point on the way they are willing to do with ABC.
