of course you think even if true its pointless, because the “virtue” of person pointing it out is more important than the truth of it
If you tax the endowment then thats less money the university gets… so you’re basically taxing the university, which is a business.
no, you’re taxing the endowment.
You think claiming that supporting welfare programs is a form of buying votes is virtue signalling?
no, you’re taxing the endowment.
Universities are going to get the same amount of money regardless whether or not the endowment donation is taxed at a higher or lower rate?
And why are the people proposing this saying stuff like “These institutions need to be held accountable for their role in our nation’s ballooning student debt.” if this has to effect on the universities?
He doesn’t know he was just throwing ■■■■ at wall with no knowledge again.
you’re confused. supporting give away programs and denying its vote buying is virtue signalling. you’ve kinda twisted the convo… not surprised
money out, money in.
the money the endowment is taxed will pay for the student loan the university is collecting. they’ll still get it, just from the other end.

I’m sorry, have I attacked you?
You said, “person pointing it out”. Who else is that besides @thinkingman?
money out, money in.

I was told if you raise taxes on a business, they will raise the price of their product or service. If the university is getting less money from the endowment, won’t they raise tuition to cover the loss of money?
you’re being to litteral. it was meant as any generic schmoe pointing it out.
otherwise, you did twist the convo about where the virtue signalling comes in. i’ll take it as an honest mistake and simple misinterpretation.

I can’t read your mind.
then we’ll just keep raising the tax until they stop.
of course, they will still be getting the money, the difference being instead of uselessly sitting in an endowment it will actually be paying for someone’s education.

Why don’t you admit where you’re really going with this … free secondary education for all.
That would be an awesome thing… but we won’t do it.
As a country we used to subsidize college a lot more. That got cut waaaay back and the result is piling debt onto people. That is obviously failing an entire generation.
Correcting the course and not making it worse has to happen at some point.
This is an action that will make millions of people’s lives less crappy and be a net positive to the nation as a whole.
We all know this… which is why the only argument against it is to depict it as unfair to plumbers.
At least you’re no longer trying to hide your stripes …
I have never hidden anything.
Eduction should be heavily subsidized. Helping out actual people instead of funneling resources to corporations is a thing that I believe government should do.
Have you never denied you are a Socialist? That’s the stripes I’m referring to.
But given the way you spelled “education” I can see why you think you need yours subsidized.
What is considered “Socialist” to modern conservatives is the same as what is said to be “woke”
It has become a meaningless term.
A degree in identity studies helps no one. It’s a scam, a con, a grift.

Don’t give me that ■■■■■ You’re the one advocating free secondary education. (And I bet you think there should be free health care too.)

Oh no! Not meaningless at all. Although I prefer Collectivist.
I love how you© try to deny your socialism by claiming you don’t believe in material determinism anymore - Yeah, we know. That failed miserably.
So what do you© do? The dialectic.
You personally and especially deriding the “culture war”, all the while promoting it.
The greatest trick the devil ever played…
Don’t give me that ■■■■■ You’re the one advocating free secondary education. (And I bet you think there should be free health care too.)
Nothing is free.

Well, you sure don’t seem to mind being free with other people’s money.

My money is used for a ton of things that I don’t like.
I don’t pretend that I am special because I pay taxes.
