We welcome you to our church to see our version of how it should be done. Where we come from, we don’t tell another of the faith if they’re doing it wrong. We just show them a model of how many of us believe how it should be done right.
We do that through volunteer work throughout the community, offering our homes to the homeless, the drug addicted, and the abused. We volunteer monetarily through our daily soup kitchen and weekend sharing of furniture and kitchen goods for those in need. It’s a lot of work sifting through abandoned houses, some of which have been used for illegal purposes. And yes, when people come into our community for purposes that we feel are against our mission, our members feel empowered to speak up about it. And we do. Because we’ve earned that right through our work for that community.
But yes, you feel free to type the words “you’re doing it wrong,” and my prayers extend to you and your family.
It’s glorious to pray for a liar who ■■■■■■ a porn star while his wife was at home with the baby, who insults parents of dead soldiers, who insults POWs, who dodged the draft and doesn’t go to church outside of state functions, and who asked a pastor to pray for him days after people were murdered?
I do my best to live like a good Christian, except for the obvious areas in which most rational people would disagree. My wordiness tends to get in the way. Luckily, the Lord forgives, because someday I’m going to be one of the most foul-mouthed, sarcastic people in heaven, if he’ll have me.
But one should observes one’s deeds before judging. The deeds matter more than any words typed on a screen.
So I’m not surprised that we see thing differently.
I don’t think the pastor or church should have turned away Trump, not at all, it’s just that Trump put them in an awkward spot that they were used for a quick photo op coming from the golf course like one would drop by an IHOP when you’ve heard on twitter that it’s free short stack day.
So a White House spokesperson says that Donald went to the church to pray for the victims of the mass shooting, but the pastor says he was told to pray for Donald. He even cited a verse from the Bible that he used to kinda sorta justify doing so as he simultaneously apologized for it.
It would be interesting to know exactly what was said in that prayer.
I firmly believe that our church would have accepted Trump, even though he received very few votes from us. It is also probably true that our church would have apologized to the congregants afterward. In both cases, it was the moral thing to do, in my opinion. And the congregants would have left feeling that had successfully accepted a challenge that disgusted them morally. Again, that’s all my view, but if we took a vote of my people, I’m not too insecure to admit that I’d be a winner on all of those assessments.
Sidebar: Anyone else notice how little coverage there is for the Virginia massacre at this stage? Granted, I don’t watch news (cable or TV) but online you have to actively search to find relevant articles. A cursory glance of CNN’s website reveals nothing on the incident. Same on Fox’s website.
