Parental choice v clinical need

At what point do the needs of the child override the parents wishes?

Who gets to decide if those wishes are rational and well founded?

Quite a depressing case, where there are no winners. Glad i dont have to be ruling on it.

Millions of pints of blood are thrown out every year here. There’s more than enough to be picky with.

My question is…how can anyone know?

Unless New Zealand has radically different laws than the US, I’m pretty sure the vaccination status of blood donors is not a record that is tracked.

Too bad they don’t have a sample of the donor’s blood to test.

By the time the donor’s blood is there to be used…the vaccine will have long since broken down and been eliminated…unless a person donated blood right when they were vaccinated.

Alexa, what is a blood titer test?

As someone who would not want vaccinated blood, blood showing no antibodies would be an acceptable substitute in the absence of known unvaccinated.

No sure it is tracked but they ask every time I give blood.

Those antibodies Wayne over a relatively short period of time, and additionally it’s not always easy to tell whether it’s vaccinated immunity or natural immunity.

And again it’s a pointless thing to worry about, because the vaccine itself is eliminated from the body and relatively short order.

I understand these points will not convince the person who is bound and determined to worry that The vaccines are dangerous.

And all these things would do would add cost and time to the process of using blood in life-saving procedures, for very little gain.

*wane

The blood is in a bag. The kidneys stop filtering the blood once it’s removed from the body.

Baby can’t talk, so the state must assume it wants to live and allow professionals to conduct themselves accordingly.

Imagine risking your baby’s like for something as stupid as this.

Ask that question with respect to abortion.

For the record, I think these parents are horribly wrong.

Parents are risking the life of a baby with all the legal protection of a person.

Why not deal with the most basic vanilla scenario first?

The surgery is apparently complete.

I wonder if this is an aboriginal child.

A valid question.

I guess it comes down to when you think a feotus becomes a child.

Why can’t both sides cooperate where unvaccinated blood is used and the doctors perform the life saving surgery?

Imagine a medical professional not honoring the parents’ wishes and do the surgery with unvaccinated blood? When you’re a professional, the adjective of “stupid” isn’t strong enough. IMO…it’s negligent.

That is the copout response when it’s apparent, you can’t have it both ways.
