One and only Kavenaugh Hearings Thread (part 1)

I am truly sorry you were raped. It is a crime on par with murder in my book and when duly convicted should receive the same sentences.

extending the deadline SIX times is bad optics? Really. How many times should it be extended. Googlemaps shows 41 hours of drive time from California coast to washington dc. She needs to get her ass in a car seat and start driving since she refuses to fly out.

I’m so sorry this happened to you. Sincerely. I was also a 15 yr old girl once, and while it never happened to me, I know others who it di happen to.

My question is - what you do if that person who raped ended up being nominated for SCOTUS or President? Wouid you just sit back and not say anything?

How would you feel if people didn’t believe you, called you a liar and were saying you were just doing it for political reasons?

They could have asked for an investigation. But they didn’t. What’s their rush? Why can’t they take the time necessary to find out the facts?

You just don’t get it - which isn’t surprising in the least. And nothing I can say will change your mind. I don’t care if R’s keep losing the women’s vote. Better for me.

Funny how dirty tricks are okay as long as you think it benefits you, huh?

Why didn’t Fienstein bring for the accusation earlier so they committee could do more of an investigation. FBI probably looked at the letter and said, not much we can do on a 40 year old case.

It’s a question of whether you think it benefits you or not.

Ford wasn’t rape. There was no rape.

Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse, D-R.I., said that “as soon as Democrats get gavels”, the party will investigate the Kavanaugh allegations even if he is confirmed and sitting on the Supreme Court.

“This is such bad practice that even if they were to ram this guy through, as soon as Democrats get gavels we’re going to want to get to the bottom of this,” he said on CNN.

When pressed as to whether he was saying Democrats would investigate a sitting Supreme Court justice, Whitehouse said he was “confident of that.”

“And I think we’ll also be investigating why the FBI stood down its background investigation when this came up in this particular background,” he said.

Even more reason to vote Republicans back into or into office.

Investigation of what? She hasn’t appeared before them to lodge her complaint.

I appreciate the sentiment, Sneaky.

My reason for putting it out there again is because it’s been really frustrating to watch people, who have no clue what it’s like, speak with such authority about what people who have experienced it would do/feel/say.

People who are doing that are expressing their contempt for us when they proclaim that one event defines our entire being as one borg-like unit. I can only say what I felt/did/said and I’ve experienced it. So to see someone who could never be there proclaim any authority in effort to win an argument on the internet is a bit nauseating.

Garland wasn’t a trick.

Of course. Was it done with lower court judges and by whom first?

Had it ever happened before? Was it done specifically to deny the president his pick?

Of course you’re okay with it, it got you what you wanted.

That’s where, if there had been some record at the time, we might tell something. 36 years later there are bound to be gaps…she doesn’t even remember where the house was. She will just have to fill in those gaps with that which makes her case stronger.

Oh you mean when the Democrats in like 2004 objected to like nine specific candidates and were perfectly willing to vote on the dozens of other nominees? Like that?

Christine Blasey Ford: “How is it that a woman who has been a victim of sexual assault can’t be on a jury for 1 sexual assault case, but a perpetrator of sexual assault can be a SCOTUS Justice who rules on all sexual assault cases?"

Good question.

Because the women asked her to keep the information confidential until further notice. It wasn’t until her name got out that Feinstein felt she could then make what she knew public.

Did you read the letter and Feinstein’s statement? If you did you would know the answer to your question.

And, for the umpteenth time, the optics of all male Republican judiciary committee majority doing this deadline crap and not agreeing to ask for an investigation before they vote is just bad. Don’t believe me and keep sticking your head in the sand. That’s fine by me.

And if the confidence hadn’t been broken (by the newspaper or fienstein) she wouldn’t have come forword. Would that be your assumption. And Fienstein has yet to release a full unredacted copy to the republican’s on the committee. Why would that be huh?
