On Tarriffs With Canada “Didn’t you guys burn down the White House?”

Trump is wrong the Canadian milita didn’t burn down the white house though we like to joke about it.

It wasn’t the British burned it down, Canadian provincial army didn’t take part in that campaign.

Trump does know that the reason British burned down Washington was because America burned down York first right?

You think trump would hesitate to do something like this if the tables were turned? Maybe he deserves a little turnabout and pushback, though it will probably thud off his thick narcissistic skull.

Orrrr, it could just be insanely perceptive eleventy dimensional chess on the Canadian’s part. He’s goading Trump, poking him into a reaction. He’s using Trump tactics against Trump. Maybe he’ll get Trump to burn down the White House himself. This time.

Should be interesting.

There is a theory floating about that Donald is craftily acting the fool in different situations to throw people off balance in order to gain a superior position. So who knows, maybe you’re right and Trudeau is giving it a try as well.

Canada should shut their mouths before we foot stomp them, probably only take 2-3 days.

trump haters will damage even themselves just to hurt Trump.

it is a mental disorder… TDS.

Looking for a little Lebensraum?

James Madison said the same thing in 1812.

how does this damage Canada?

Canada is our closest ally…in all ways. “We” must get along but…there is an imbalance of trade that should be balanced. The tariffs are sending that message…and nothing more. Canada IS and must always remain…our closest ally.

Yeah but Canadian “troops” (the Canadian Army didn’t exist in any real capacity; it was a militia force) were no where to be seen.

Also, they did kick our asses in 1812 when we tried to invade them.

Treating them no better than China is a real poor way to keep our closest ally.

Why should trade be balanced? What if we want to buy more than they want to buy? Should we buy less? F

Trump began to get tough with China and then backed down. I’m not sure why but I am confident there’s a reason and it’s only temporary. All countries with a negative balance of trade need to be dealt with equally by tariffing the negative portion and applying them where they’d be the most effective. All that said…remembering our allies and understanding that hurting them, is hurting ourselves to a measured degree.

If we’re only going to hurt ourselves then why even do it?

Why? We (currently) have the largest GDP in the world. How is every other country going to spend as much as we spend?

That’s a good point.

Canada’s GDP is what, 2.7 trillion? The US is close on 17 trillion.

It is a drain on our economic future ability to sustain the economy today. Those that choose to purchase more from a country than they buy from us adds to our national debt in government assistance. Let them absorb the expense of the damage done for the gain they received.
