Unions suck they only gave us 2 days off for a work week
Threatening violence if someone doesnât give you something they own has a different legal word.
There is no requirement that negotiation be relegated to the individual.
You would think thatâs self explanatory
Itâs almost like working with people to better everyoneâs individual interest is a foreign concept.
It doesnât improve âeveryoneâsâ interest.
WuWei:Only if you © canât stand the competition. Value is individual, not collective. Discretionary effort must be rewarded to be realized.
Of course value also accrues to a group.
No, it doesnât.
There is no requirement that negotiation be relegated to the individual.
The requirement comes from the value.

Some people donât want their neighbors doing as well as them
Of course it does.

Itâs a negotiation when both parties are allowed to leave the table. But thatâs not the way union labor laws work.
Iâm fine with actual collective negotiation.
I am glad that you are fine with collective negotiation.
Maybe the understanding that without the protections of law, historically the alternative is a lot of violence is understood also.
Threatening violence if someone doesnât give you something they own has a different legal word.
I am not threatening violence, but I understand that the end result of all thisâŠwhen put into the context of history⊠is a lot of violence from both the union and the union busting sides.
So which is better?
A lot of violence, or lawful protections of labor to organize without threat?
I think the latter is much better.

Drag people down just to stand on their shoulders.
Of course it does.
No, it doesnât. Every cashier is not equally valuable to Dollar General.
Every fitter is not equally valuable to Ford.
Every worker is not equally valuable to any company. In fact, to paraphrase something attributed to Heraclitus from 500 BC:
âOut of every one hundred workers, ten shouldnât even be there, eighty are just doing the minimum to draw a check, nine are the real workers, and we are lucky to have them, for they make the job. Ah, but the one, one is a hand, and he will get it done.â

Some people donât want their neighbors doing as well as them
My neighbor has nothing to do with my situation, nor me his.

What a stupid post.
merickson:Unions make jobs worth having. Unions are the difference between a job and wage slavery.
And when you point at the child labor and overtime laws and other laws protecting labor, point at the unions who were the driving force behind those lawsâ passage.
Iâve never been a union member in my life and I make good money.
Same here. I made a good bit more than the autoworkers for example working for one of those âevilâ corporations.
I had an industrial electrical trade and worked 40 years for the company.
Retired now.

Just saying how odd it is for someone to have an issue with the method someones else uses to better their position in life. Especially when it doesnât affect them
I understand having an issue with government unions but not private ones

Governments can be just as an abusive employer as private entities⊠sometimes even more so.

Makes me proud i was never a union member. Threatening violence is an immoral approach imo.

I.e. extortion is ok as long as itâs against someone else.
Governments can be just as an abusive employer as private entities⊠sometimes even more so.
I donât agree with it those who object to government unions but at least I understand the thinking behind it
