The NYPD budget is $5.8 Billion for central operating costs and $5.1 Billion for agency operation.
It is over $10 billion and even then they are expecting at least a $1 billion shortfall in the 2024 fiscal year budget.

That is the story that they are selling.
The Post wants to blame a certain segment of crime going back to 2022 levels on immigrants, defund the police, and Alvin Bragg because it plays to a certain audience.
