NATO was used offensively in Serbia, obstensibly for a “humanitarian cause”.
But they didn’t get UN OK to do that, so NATO nations violated the UN Charter.

Why shouldn’t Ukraine, a sovereign nation, be expected to pursue alliances and memberships that suite their interests? And in return, if it suits their interests, why shouldn’t these alliances and memberships entertain the discussion?
A NATO/Russia conflict makes nuke war 99.9999% likely.
So who benefits from trying to push a direct confrontation?
They can, as long as they can defend themselves from the consequences.

Good question. How did an alliance with Ukraine suit the West’s interests?
Why should they expect a consequence of invasion for pursuing the interests of their sovereign country?
Should Europe only do what Putin lets them do?
Since they are neither a member of NATO or the EU, I would suggest the West has thus far reached the conclusion that it doesn’t.
