For the record, setting your phone to Airplane mode will do exactly the same, no coms in or out.

Wednesday October 3rd at 2:18 pm Eastern Time, the federal government is going to initiate a wireless emergency alert. If your phone is turned on (even in silent mode), it is going to make the most gawdaful sound you’ve ever heard followed by an annocement that it is a test. 2 minutes later a test of the emergency alert system (radio and tv) will go off.

This Test of the WAS predates The Don. Was passed and signed by Obama in 2016. Law specifies the first test of the system to occure within 3 years of passage. It was scheduled for a couple weeks ago, but the hurricane on the east coast caused a delay to the back up date.

So if you don’t want gawdaful sounds from you cell phone, only choice is to turn it OFF before the test is issued and leave it off during the test.

Please note. Title was WRONG the opening post was correct. Test will be at 2:18 pm eastern time. I was reading two different web pages when making the post. The original test was to be in the morning, back up date and time was afternoon. Title of the thread has been corrected.

Ok…I don’t really find this to be a bad thing. Living in fire country and with kids getting kidnapped by non-custodial parents who run to Mexico a lot…I find these alerts to be a good thing…even if they startle me.

We get amber alerts. I do not get civil defense alerts…this was strange because every phone in the office went off. I didn’t know there was a test. I was up watching the Rockies beat up on my Cubbies in 13 innings yesterday…so I missed the news. LOL Apparently everyone else did too.
