Are you saying it is acceptable for Presidents to shut down govt if their pet project doesn’t get funded? How will you feel if a future president does so unless Congress passes single payer for all?
Trump is a a deal maker. There is no doubt he offered the $5 billion number expecting the Dems to come back with less, so they could compromise on a middle number that he actually really wanted in the first place.
In fact, this article from last year shows the shutdown is on Pelosi alone, not even on Schumer who IS willing to compromise:

It doesn’t work in reverse. Republicans don’t care about funding the government. They would be willing to not pay the Custom and Border Patrol and the TSA and the Coast Guard for an entire year in order to obtain policy concessions from the Democrats. Democrats actually care about having a functioning Government with border security.
Ha ha. That deal maker turned down 25 billion last year and is now begging for scrapes.
I agree she is being steadfast with her pledge for no funding for the wall, but to be fair, the House passed a bill to re-open the government.
Unfortunately, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell refused to bring the bill up for a vote.
Can we agree that both sides are being pigheaded?
Please cite the provision that shows the amounts of excise taxes Mexico will be paying.

Steve Scalise said that the house rs would not go along with the amnesty portion of the deal.
What has changed? Most rs are still against a permenamt DACA solution that involves a path to citizenship. That’s why trump rejected that deal.

Being that the government is terrible with handling money (look at how social security funds are used to pay other programs), is there something that President Trump has identified as a secure placeholder that all excise taxes will be captured that will ONLY be used for building this wall?
In addition, if President Trump is asking Congress for money for the wall, what good is the excise taxes when discussing the wall? The government doesn’t repay itself. That notion is “pie in the sky”.
Trump WAS willing to compromise on DACA as his speech showed. He probably could have gotten the other Reps to go along with the deal as long as it got the government open.
The point is other Dem leaders such as Schumer are willing to compromise. It is only Pelosi who is not. It is she alone who is keeping the government workers from being paid.

Congress can not force a future congress to spend money a certain way.
She really thinks hanging on to “Mexico will pay for the wall” is a political winning argument. She didn’t have a problem with the “you can keep your doctor” lie by a sitting President or other Democrat campaign fibs but she seems determined to hold President Trump & his voters hostage until Mexico coughs up the cash. Meanwhile she supports foreigners and illegal aliens and illegal asylum seekers over the welfare of Federal workers on furlough, Americans, and the countries border and national security.

After Trump blew up the deal on the table a year ago (which he requested) and the deal on the table in December (which he had previously endorsed), its rich to claim that its Pelosi who is responsible. Donald Trump said he would be proud to shut down the government back in December and since it has been shut down he has not mentioned any regrets.
The public overwhelmingly understands that Trump is primarily responsible, that’s why his popularity is back down to all time lows. Shouting Pelosi’s at fault… maybe it wins the propaganda fight but factually you are spitting into the wind.

Negotiating policy while Americans are being intentionally hurt by the president in order to force concessions is immoral.
There could be negotiations with the two party leaders if the government was funded and functioning.
But noooooo, we have to demand the money or else…
You don’t negotiate with hostage takers. It will just encourage others in the future.
