Midterms are what are known as ārace to the baseā elections. You have to turn out your super voters to have a shot. Given that holding both houses and the presidency almost always leads to a big win for the opposition party, Republicans not voting could be a disaster.
They will continue to be befuddled when Trump surprises them with something that could be seen miles away.

The base of the party is Trump voters. I donāt think those people care if Trump is breaking laws as long as heās making America Great Again. I know Democrats have a shot, regardless of the gerrymandering making their gains more difficult, but iām only skeptically optimistic.
Dunno, as a general rule presidents with under fifty percent approval are supposed to stay mostly on the sidelines during midterms except in guaranteed win races.
We forget how rabid Bushās base was and with his approval hovering around the high thirties they got wiped out in 2006 even with him keeping his mouth shut.
