Personally I do not think it matters, changing the make up of the SC wont just “happen” too much of a political risk.

If something like the reversal of Roe would occur then yes that would be a catalyst to change the supreme court.

Keep in mind they pushed pretty hard for Ginsburg to step down as well. Also it’s telling me that libs don’t think they’re going to keep the senate.

If this situation were to happen. Biden should nominate an ultra-conservative Republican hard-liner. If McConnell accepts the nomination, he comes across as a hypocrite and Biden withdraws the nomination. If McConnell refuses, he’ll face the ire of his own party.

Yes during an election year like he did before and he gave his reasoning.

The goalposts moved on the Garland nominations multiple times.

The main problem is that McConnell declared, WITHIN AN HOUR OF SCALIA’S DEATH, that there would be no replacement. The rationalizations he gave thereafter were little more than partisan claptrap. We went from “precedent” to “the people should choose” etc. The explanations evolved as holes got poked in the idiotic, flimsy rationalizations. There’s no particular reason a SCotUS nominee shouldn’t even be CONSIDERED and given an up/down vote just because the presidency/senate are split. Young, idealistic law clerk McConnell once held that position when he wrote that it’s the job of the senate to consider the president’s nominee on their qualifications, not partisanship.

Does Breyer have a son that did some sketchy work at Deutche bank that can be used as leverage to get him to step down?

To my understanding, Breyer could be caught in bed with a live boy or dead girl, and we couldn’t do much to have him removed. Impeachment is the only recourse.

Which is a FAR cry from everybody saying “you really should leave before you die”.
