Miami cop wearing a pro-Trump mask near a voting site

Clearly you have it all figured out. I’ll move on.

Of course it doesn’t. That part is nonsense.

It is absurd to think that people went into a voting booth where no one could see how they voted and changed their would be Biden vote to Trump because a cop was wearing a mask with “Trump” on it. Why would he change his vote in the voting booth?
The sole result of his action was that someone reported him and he got in trouble, as he should.

according to the Miami police chief the officer violated policy by wearing that specific mask near a voting site.

Come on Doug!!

Snowflakes will be snowflakes.

The policy should be that he violated a rule by wearing it anywhere. Near a voting site or elsewhere.

"Miami police chief Ron Papier said Ubeda’s actions violated department policy against campaigning while on duty. "

Indeed, that does seem to be the policy. He shouldn’t be campaigning anywhere and he was properly disciplined for doing so.
End of story.

There’s a separate law regarding police officers and sheriffs at polling stations in Florida. Probably for a reason. This used to be a thing in the South.

"Miami police chief Ron Papier said Ubeda’s actions violated department policy against campaigning while on duty. Umask also contained offensive language, an additional violation”

Yes. He did. And that is a rule against campaigning anywhere. It is not specific or limited to a voting site. And he was disciplined.
A cop broke a rule and he was properly disciplined for doing so.
Rather a minor event, don’t you think? It was handled quite properly.

agreed.

He’s out of line. As an officer, you represent everyone and exclude no one…period. Save your politics for your own time.

Really stupid. Maybe police officers should be issued disposable masks to avoid nonsense like this. One man, one vote should not involve coercion.

The pair, who had apparently erected a tent outside the 150 feet no soliciting zone, told police they worked for a private security company.

Intimidation? How was intimidation concluded? Maybe they’re there to potentially witness any possible voter fraud?

Maybe cheaters don’t want witnesses and made a false allegation? What did they do specifically to intimidate anyone?

…from the article; “Today there was a big problem. In Philadelphia, they went in to watch. They’re called poll watchers, a very safe, very nice thing,” he said. “They were thrown out. They weren’t allowed to watch. You know why? Because bad things happen in Philadelphia.”

I don’t think a Police Officer should lose his job over this, or even get suspended. But he should be reprimanded and perhaps offer an apology for his mistake and even offer a Mea Culpa.

Thats about all that is really needed here.
