Wearing a mask when sick reduces the chance of transmission. If the target also wears a mask the chance of transmission is reduced further, albeit by a smaller amount.

Fact: wearing a mask does not prevent YOU from being infected with COVID-19.
What the ■■■■ is wrong with people. No one is going to get infected because they wore a mask but you sure as ■■■■ can get infected by not wearing one.
I know every country has its own share of ■■■■ wombles who refuse to wea a mask but America takes this to a whole new level of stupidity.
Wrong … you get the virus through close or confined proximity with infected people who are not wearing masks. If everyone wore a mask, the problem of community spread could be greatly reduced, but wearing one does not protect you from being infected by those who are not.
For ■■■■■ sake man, no it does not 100% but wearing a mask sure as hell gives you more protection than no mask at all.
No … it does not. That myth is being used to scare people into compliance, but it serves no preventive purpose for the wearer.
Sure?

Even wearing an N95 without eye protection cannot prevent you from becoming infected.
“May”.
Masks do not offer 100% protection, thus may. Regardless, far better than no mask.
The type of masks people are being encouraged to wear don’t stop the virus from being inhaled or exhaled.
One thing that I have noticed is that those folks who are wearing masks are doing social distancing. And from what I have read, that is the number one component in keeping one safe. I have heard multiple doctors though disagree at what that distance should be. Some say that the six foot range is good while I have heard others say that ten to twelve feet is the best. And I do agree with the doctor that said consider everyone that you come into contact with has the virus.
That cannot be shown to be true.
Without eye protection they offer little to no protection at all since the eyes are a primary pathway to the respiratory tract.
They may offer “some” reduction, they are not a preventive, they can’t be.

“Some” seems to be enough to significantly change infection rates.

About a week ago I heard a doctor say that he was on a three hour flight and he believes that he was infected through his eyes from the recirculated air on the flight. He was the first and only doctor I have seen on the tube talking about how vulnerable the eyes are.

I don’t think those wearing the masks are social distancing better, I think it’s the opposite because they have faith in the mask.
The rest I agree with.
Yet we don’t have the evidence to support that claim.
If your eyes are not protected you have a direct pathway into the respiratory system.
More should be. This is the most basic day one stuff from any microbiology lab class.

Well I was just speaking about the folks I come in contact with in my little town. However I get your point.
I do see that the protestors that are wearing masks are grouped together. Dumb.
Masks create a false sense of protection. The less vulnerable people are or think they are the less likely they are to practice it.

Sure ok. Whatever you say buddy.
Yes of course your just as likely to contract the virus without a mask as you are with one.
For ■■■■■ sake. What an idiotic and selfish position all these anti maskers are taking
I am sure that if a vaccine is ever available it will be these same people who will find a reason not to take it.
Its not what I say, it’s what doctors and virologist say. Wearing a mask is not about protecting you, it’s about protecting others.
You are so hung up on this that you apparently haven’t even noticed that I have said repeatedly that everyone should be wearing a mask while mingling with others in public. But don’t let the facts get in the way of haven’t a good rant.
You know exactly what I mean. And it all amounts to the same thing. Wear a ■■■■■■■■■■■■■ mask. You wearing a mask will protect others and others wearing a mask will protect you.
I am past caring about those who dont wear mask and get infected. I dont really give a ■■■■ if they live or die. Perhaps this is just natural selection we are seeing at work.
But I sure do care about those who have done their best to stay safe and been infected because of these selfish ■■■■■■
You’re still confusing “you should wear a mask” with “not wearing a mask puts you at risk.” The first is completely correct; the second is totally wrong.
Natural selection would be everyone going maskless and going on with their lives.
We’d end up with a much stronger and more gene pool when it finished culling the population.
Virtually everything we do today in medicine and public health is to prevent natural selection.

Fact: wearing a mask does not prevent YOU from being infected with COVID-19.
Not a fact.
Yes it is a fact. Unless, that is, the mask is specifically designed to filter out virus sized particles from inhaled air, they will not prevent you from being infected. The type of masks people are being encouraged to wear don’t stop the virus from being inhaled or exhaled. What they do is retard the velocity of exhaled micro drops of spittle which may contain the virus if YOU are infected. You catch the illness by contact with micro drops expelled by infected people not wearing masks, not by not wearing a mask yourself. Surely, after five months of being informed by numerous medical experts, one should know that.

There is no evidence that wearing a mask offers any significant protection. Besides, the initial claim was that Louis brought it on himself by not wearing a mask. I appreciate the slow evolution you are taking from the initial position, but you are still wrong to blame him for his infection.
and without the addition of eye protection the mask can do little or nothing to protect you.
