But, I think the better idea would be to use the NG to set up checkpoints to stop innocent people from entering the riot zone, and just let all the idiot rioters kill each other.

I think we should let LA and the state of California work it out. And if they need the feds, they can ask for help.

The city of LA and the state of California have no interest in stopping the riots.
I heard a clip this morning of Karen Bass (LA Mayor) saying they should be the ones dealing with it.
Unfortunately she is doing nothing. 
You remember maybe a second riot at the Capitol building?

When the individuals can actually see themselves in prison, they will stop seeing themselves as part of the mob.
Let the next Democrat president pardon these attacking federal officers. In the mean time, they can wait it out in prison like any J6ers who attacked cops.

Not when it comes to interfering with federal officers enforcing federal laws. Remember hearing the term “seditious conspiracy”? Obstruction of justice? Both of those are federal laws and apply here.
Remember how you cheered when the Supreme Court told Texas that immigration enforcement was purely a federal power and didn’t involve the state of Texas? Well that principle applies here too.
