Since all of this comes from leaked recordings of interviews Zarif did for a book or something, I can’t tell you when the conversation between him and Kerry occurred - or what the conversation was about, where it happened, or the context of the quote.

But a lack of information does not make all narratives equally likely.

Whether one likes, dislikes or like me meh on Israel thinking it takes up too much of the news. I would be very worried if I lived in Israel if Iran had the bomb. To Iran mutual assured destruction might not sound like a bad idea.

Historically, Iran has been more of a rational actor, in terms of geopolitics, than any of their neighbors, including Israel. Everything Iran does is to maintain itself.

Zarif is talking about internal politics to a journalist in leaked audio from March. It’s super interesting because we don’t get looks into the internal politics of Iran, and here we have the foreign minister kvetching about Dead Suleimani and the ayatollah.

The arglebargle is “omgz John Kerry told Iran secrets about Israel”

The story is, Zarif telling the world he is but a mushroom, being fed ■■■■ and kept in the dark. The result of this will be Zarif will probably be gone from the scene soon.
