Judge Amy Barrett's Confirmation

You know how that work, right? How he had such a big pipeline to fill?

Penny wise.

Pound foolish.

Eggs…hatched.

Early counting.

Have to take Senate first.

expanding the court will be constitutional
so will limiting the cases teh supreme court can decide

it will be hard for teh GOP to control the senate after dc and puerto rico become states with 4 more democratic senators

Good to signal what the relationships should be in case Biden wins, Republicans keep the Senate, and Biden wants to get some nominees through.
The Senate will feel required to do only what is Constitutionally required.

The house is a glorified mob (regardless who controls).

When the Senate majority matches the president’s politics they get to nominate judicial seats. Since Reid shortsightedly cut a tool the minority had to stop the majority’s nominations, I suggest self-reflection.

The Senate hasn’t been in the Dem’s hands since 2015. This tells me Americans want our R reps to continue doing what they’re doing.

The shortsighted message relates here big time-- right back at Dems.

I agree. Why do you think that is?

This is literally the only thing that congress does. Legislation? Nope. Helping people? Nope. Confirming judges? YES!!!

See, that right there is the hubris of the American Republican.

The Senate being in Republican hands is rarely a function of Americans voting for it. It is often a function of a minority of Americans voting for it.

Same with the Presidency.

Do you see where that could be a problem after a number of iterations if the minority rules as though it were the majority?

The “congress” has no role in confirming judges. That role belongs to the Senate. But your congress does nothing either. Take your concerns to Nancy. Further, repeal the 17th. Senators should be appointed by the state govt. They should not be elected.

Yes, well, that was the terms under which smaller states gave up their independence and joined the Union. They were not required to do so and larger states were not required to accept those terms. You can always amend the Constitution, assuming the smaller states are willing to give up those terms.

That’s interesting and the 2nd time. Could you please explain what you mean?

Correction. It was (D) Sen Reid who started the war. This is just the latest skirmish.

Well, yes.

It’s very difficult to change the constitution.

And the very sea anchor I mention is the cause of it. The outweighed power given to the minority.

Now…if the Constitution will not be amended, there is also the prospect of the minority not governing as though they were the majority when, as often occurs in the 21st century, both the Senate and the White House are occupied by folks elected by a minority of the population.

i look forward to biden and the dems expanding not only teh supreme court but the district courts. and passing laws with additional riders that say the supreme court cant review them.

I look forward to the states of washington dc and puerto rico with 4 more democratic senators.

all very constitutional

It is an escalation.

Me too.

How many judges did he hold back during Bush?

How many sc judges?
