the thread is about average people who became politicians.
and lets face it, there is nothing more mediocre than trump.

Itās crazy town that the sitting US President would come up in politics discussion. ![]()
The addicts are clucking. ![]()
Iām talking about this:
What sort of unique form of intelligence has he demonstrated? Did he develop a cure for a particular illness? Does he have a great invention that is changing the lives of people thoroughout the world?
What politician has?
I didnāt say you venerated Trump. You voted for him. The people you caucus with do.
Who would Ted Cruz be without politics?
AOC?
You are demanding a standard that doesnāt apply to the guild.
The addicts are clucking.
Disgust with him is an easier addiction than crack.

Feel free to use any Republican as well to prove the OP. I simply used Mamdani as heās the new flavor of the week. I have no doubt there will be others.
None of them have! Come on man!
the thread is about average people who became politicians.
No, thatās not what the gist of the thread is about:
Is politics/government the only arena in which very ordinary, average and often downright unimpressive people are lauded as something special?
To be more specific itās a philosophical look at human behavior.
None of them have! Come on man!
Were you intending to respond to someone else as this post doesnāt relate to anything Iāve said. Although regarding examples of this phenomenon I would put Trump and Obama as the two most penultimate of what Iām talking about.

It absolutely does relate to your criteria.

Is that the word you want?

No, itās not the āonly.ā
It is a subjective question of taste.

Not an English teacher so thereās probably better adjectives to prove my point.![]()

If your arguing Republicans arenāt anything special either, then thereās no debate.

Athletes are clearly not āaverageā or āordinaryā people in that specific arena. Now in the arena of entertainment and media thereās definitely more debate but I would argue thereās varying degrees of talent needed. Although with social media I wouldnāt argue that as much.
I think the guilds you named are prone to the mediocrity phenomena.
Is Mamdani as ātalentedā at politics as Taylor Swift was when she started out? Is that not for the people to decide.
You mention human behavior-we have a strong tendency to judge the new person on his first day to somebody we like on their last day. We conveniently forget what our hero was like on his first day.
And sometimes (Cruz) they donāt get better, they get worse.
Athletes are clearly not āaverageā or āordinaryā people in that specific arena.
Compared to whom?

Are you kidding. Compared to everyone in the world.

Established republicans compared to the rookie?
