Is politics/government the only arena in which very ordinary, average and often downright unimpressive people are lauded as something special?

the thread is about average people who became politicians.

and lets face it, there is nothing more mediocre than trump.

It’s crazy town that the sitting US President would come up in politics discussion.

I’m talking about this:

What politician has?

I didn’t say you venerated Trump. You voted for him. The people you caucus with do.

Who would Ted Cruz be without politics?
AOC?

You are demanding a standard that doesn’t apply to the guild.

Yep. That albatross will continue to hang. Get used to it.

Disgust with him is an easier addiction than crack.

Feel free to use any Republican as well to prove the OP. I simply used Mamdani as he’s the new flavor of the week. I have no doubt there will be others.

None of them have! Come on man!

No, that’s not what the gist of the thread is about:

Is politics/government the only arena in which very ordinary, average and often downright unimpressive people are lauded as something special?

To be more specific it’s a philosophical look at human behavior.

Were you intending to respond to someone else as this post doesn’t relate to anything I’ve said. Although regarding examples of this phenomenon I would put Trump and Obama as the two most penultimate of what I’m talking about.

It absolutely does relate to your criteria.

Is that the word you want?

No, it’s not the ā€œonly.ā€

It is a subjective question of taste.

Not an English teacher so there’s probably better adjectives to prove my point.

If your arguing Republicans aren’t anything special either, then there’s no debate.

Athletes are clearly not ā€œaverageā€ or ā€œordinaryā€ people in that specific arena. Now in the arena of entertainment and media there’s definitely more debate but I would argue there’s varying degrees of talent needed. Although with social media I wouldn’t argue that as much.

I think the guilds you named are prone to the mediocrity phenomena.

Is Mamdani as ā€œtalentedā€ at politics as Taylor Swift was when she started out? Is that not for the people to decide.

You mention human behavior-we have a strong tendency to judge the new person on his first day to somebody we like on their last day. We conveniently forget what our hero was like on his first day.

And sometimes (Cruz) they don’t get better, they get worse.

Compared to whom?

Are you kidding. Compared to everyone in the world.

Established republicans compared to the rookie?
