Is Kabul 2021 becoming Saigon 1975?

Yes, “we” use technology to ignore weather.

You think Trump negotiated with the Taliban to secure a supply of opium?

I always thought they were the leading supplier because that’s the only crop that would grow there.

Aren’t “we” special.

Ever look at any links about combat statistics over there? Not much to combat in the winter other than leftover buried IED’s from the previous fighting season.

I assume you already know why.

It was sarcasm.

Right, but could we operate enough to get everyone out of the country in the winter?

Yes easy

The opium farms were ordered to be left alone looong before the Tweet Meanie. The “Taliban” too were burning them just before 9/11. The correct ones now own the farms and militias.

Speaking of protected crops, our entire cannabis industry’s indica genetics are wholly thanks to Afghan seeds. Sometimes we’d play with the wild ones while out on mission. :man_shrugging:

Oh hell yeah, our “fighting season” never stopped. We don’t hibernate.

I thought you were implying WE got resources from the Taliban…

I’m trying to understand what we negotiated with them for…they got 5,000 fighters back…what did we get?

Great pic. Roll your own takes on a new meaning…

Yeah, so we should have waited…

Umm, we are seeing why right now.

Opiates still come from poppy plants. It greatly benefits our pharmaceutical industry to have a guaranteed supply from a safe environment, especially with the way regulations are now.

So we sold out the government we created at great cost in lives and cash to be sure pharma could keep us hooked on opiates.

Sounds plausible.

Exactly peace deal was signed feb 29 last year. Ink wasn’t dry on the deal and the Taliban started plotting the takeover.

We didn’t sell anyone out. The weak weeded themselves out. Most of the ANA were no different than spinach pickers, and villagers care about their villages. The serious players helped cull the true believers off.

Why not orderly evacuation with troops in place to make sure it is safe?

More like Afghanistan when the soviets pulled out.

Power vacuum.

Allan

There’s not a power vacuum.

Disagree. Of course there is.

Just like when the soviets abandoned ship in 1989.
