Infrastructure bill page 508

Should California keep deactivating nuclear plants in light of Biden’s electric car initiative? Seems like Democrats really didn’t think any of this through back in 2018.

No. Those are the repugs @conan was talking about in the beginning of the thread.

Why do you think I was responding to them?

From the OP article:

First paragraph:

The cost of living is on the rise, calls for yet another wave of pandemic restrictions have begun and now, buried deep in the so-called bipartisan infrastructure bill, the left has laid out yet another idea to bring Americans to their knees.

Later:

The left can chalk up this test run of what eventually might turn into a full-blown measure to make owning a vehicle next-to-impossible as an effort to be “environmentally conscious,” but is it instead another way to cripple our existing ways of life?

Pretty sure “the left” doesn’t include Republicans which are the ones in favor of the idea.

Woosh!

Don’t know what else to say. :man_shrugging:

Yes!!! They voted for this insanity. They should convert everything to green. The sooner the better. Let’s see how it works out.

Yes. Definitely a woosh going on. I read the article. The article states “the left” are the ones trying to implement a usage tax. That is wrong. It is “the right” who are doing so. That is why my post, which was in reply to the OP article and no specific person, says:

It was not “the left” as the article said, it was Republicans.

Not sure how much more plainly I can state it. Keep on interpreting it as you will. Makes no difference.

I’m against this tax no matter who is for it. How about you? Do you like the idea?

And written by a Republican.

Allan

I’m fine with it. Don’t see any other option long term. Doesn’t matter if it’s a Republican or Democrat who takes credit or blame.

Do you favor it?

What addl commercial vehicle gas tax?

No, I favor addl direct taxation of corporations.

The commercial vehicle gas tax favors one corporation over another.

That’s wrong and punishes certain companies more than others.

Allan

There is no such thing. You pay their tax. 100 percent.

But I agree. This usage tax is hammering the poor. Again…Why always the poor?

It’s a republican idea stuffed into a democratic bill. Both parties have agreed it’s a good idea. Both parties suck!

I applaud the effort to fund the highways, but these kind of taxes - like the gas tax - hurt lower income americans.

We should try a different way.

The establishment of a pilot program to determine if a per mile usage fee is an effective way of maintaining our national road system. The pilot program will look for volunteers.

Remember when Reagan slash taxes for the wealthy then insituted the - at the time - largest tax hike in american history, including a gas tax hike?

It’s the same old story…

Agreed. Gas taxes and user fees crush the poor. The rich couldn’t care less.

So what do we do to fund the highways? that’s the hard part…

Wouldn’t it make sense to read and understand legislation that is up for a vote so you can call your congress person and make informed suggestions instead of what you just did?

I would start by killing 1000 wasteful programs and departments that have not proven to have any real value.

I thought we all were bemoaning that neither side wants to compromise any more. Here is an example of it and you are complaining.
