Criminal activity.
WuWei: DisturbedGuy:I think there are people that aren’t responsible enough to own a gun. In theory, it prevents them. It isn’t permanent and there should be a robust system of appeal.
How does your universal stop them? Does a BGC check how responsible a person is?
Not that it matters how you feel about somebody else’s rights.
Criminal activity.
What does that have to do with responsibility?

Being a criminal is irresponsible.

Not necessarily. What does it have to do with responsible keeping and bearing of arms?
You broke a law this week.
WuWei: DisturbedGuy: WuWei: DisturbedGuy:universal background checks
What does that mean to you?
All gun sales require a background check.
Thanks. And what do you feel that solves?

Background checks determine if the individual has a domestic dispute, a criminal record, and/or a mental deficiency history (and because of medical privacy laws, they don’t really do that.) They do not … cannot … determine whether the person is responsible or not. All they really accomplish is to make folks like you feel like something is being done to keep you safe. The fact is however, that if someone shoots you, it will either be a family member who can pass whatever test you can come up with, or someone who cannot pass the background check we have now.
Your fear is not justification to infringe upon my Rights.

It has nothing to do with my fear. It has to do with the gun sales that bypass the current background checks.

What sales are those and why are you afraid of them?

Only in your dreams (nightmares apoarently.)
Background checks do not, nor will they ever, do what you think they do.
The issue is, they way we do it now, by the time we recognize someone as not responsible, some other citizen has lost their right to live.
616 people in the US die every day from iatrogenic causes, I.e. as a result of the side-effects of medical treatment. Six times more than die from guns. Do you want to make it harder to get medical treatment?
What a dilemma you pose.
Peanuts compared to background checks.
