In major embarrassment to GOP, House fails to pass massive Farm Bill in face of conservative Republican showdown

Yep. 30 Republicans voted against the bill and 183 Democrats voted against the bill and its all the fault of the Republicans that it didn’t pass.

So only work with the FC, and upset the majority of the rest of your caucus? That does not seem like it would bode well for those wishing to stay in leadership.

While I do not disagree personally, I’m trying to set aside personal feelings in favor of logical discussion here.

Yes, it’s on the Republicans. They are in charge. They control the majority. If they can’t get the bill through it’s on them.

If you believe in party before country, sure.

If Republicans need Dems to vote for t heir bill, then they need to compromise and create a bill Dems feel is good for the country.

Who was this post in response to? And which post?

Hawley is certainly not doing himself any favors in ensuring he defeats McCaskill either.

The one right before it, of course. But it could be in response to many here. Conservative members who believe they were helping the country with the issue of immigration reform had a duty to do what they could to support the issue and the country. This comes before support for party unity, no?

So maintaining the immigration status quo is what is in the best interest of the country? Because that is all that was accomplished here.

If the alternative was an amnesty bill with nothing received in return, yes.

None of the proposed legislation offered up for a vote, in order to secure a vote on the Goodlatte bill, meets your limited criteria. There is no blanket amnesty bill with no exchange for enhanced security proposed currently.

This is laugh out loud funny.

The farm bill is something the government does every four to five years. It expires in 2018. It is as predictable as the tides and the moon. Blaming the minority party for the inability of the majority to whip the votes to pass it is an excellent example of the modern day Republican party always seeking to shed personal responsibility whenever it ■■■■■ on its own living room floor, which it seems to do often.

The farm bill is the basics of governance. A highlight of the bare minimum that we ask of our representatives. Just do what congress after congress after congress has done before you.

And the modern day Republican party proves that they cannot perform the most basic tasks of governing.

I can understand why conservatives who cared about the Republic would be itching to find someone else to blame. It’s hard to take responsibility for putting these people in office when they won’t take responsibility for the little ■■■■ like keeping the lights on.

Why haven’t these numbnuts torpedoed Paul Ryan? He is useless…

Great post, Deloop.

Ryan should have long ago torpedoed the freedom caucus members. No committee memberships, moldy offices and no money going to their campaigns.

Agree with the OP. The leftists in the GOP don’t want to expose themselves, so they try to hide their opposition to the wall in other bills and debates.

Discuss this on the floor.

They were for ‘em until they were agin’ them.

Definitely the lesson you should take from this is that the GOP is too liberal.

Isn’t social security and food stamps programs that the Democrats made up?
You know, I use to think that they were really good. But now since millions of older people can’t retire, and younger people aren’t working as much, I’ve lost a lot of respect for the liberals on these subjects. Because at the end of the day, you can point the finger all you want at the Republicans, but at the end of the day if you really wanted to, you could make sure that these programs of yours weren’t in massive debt!

“I’m hopeful that we’ll bring up bills on immigration first so that we can have those real discussions about what’s in it and what’s not in it before we have to move on to the farm bill,” the North Carolina Republican said after his group’s afternoon meeting.

“We don’t have an impending deadline for the farm bill,” Meadows added. “Honestly, it doesn’t expire until September. I can tell you my farmers want us to deal with immigration and the farm bill, both.”

Not seeing the big problem here.
