In major embarrassment to GOP, House fails to pass massive Farm Bill in face of conservative Republican showdown

Nothing gets done however when a fringe minority takes over and controls the majority.

There isn’t much room for “less” from the current (and past) willingness to work with them, so I don’t see the risk to the FC here.

Again, who is carrying the burden of “embarrassment” here? At least according to the articles on this, it’s the leadership.

Yep. It’s high time that Ryan strip all freedom caucus members of committee membership and assign their offices to the basement of the most dank building in DC.

That is fair. I am in agreement.

And?

Does your position here indicate that you think this was a good bill that SHOULD have gotten done?

Some things are better left undone if “done” means the wrong things are getting done.

Leadership can and should remove the freedom caucus members from all committee assignments and banish them to the basement offices of a moldy office building. They’re nothing more than an embarrassment to the GOP at this point.

Missouri and Indiana and North Dakota to be specific.

The rs need one of those three states to make up the anticipated loss of Arizona and Neveda.

Many already did under Boehner. Current treatment of the Freedom Caucus is just continuation of past treatment.

And here in MO this is a big deal too. This Farm Bill has been on local talk radio as one the hottest topics for weeks now. Also, even some of the most conservative Trump defenders on local radio are furious over the trade war implications for their farming communities. I suspect this, coupled with the brouhaha over our Republican Governor, is going to greatly reduce Republican voter turnout in November here. Will it be enough to save McCaskill? Who knows, but it very well could.

Yeah, but according to one poster, we should be talking about more “impactful” things.

The Freedumb Caucus is the worst.

It really is never Republican’s issue. It’s always the Dems.

GOP can go to hades.

It’s a new day. Dump those mainstream old school GOPers. The Freedom Caucus is here to take over.

31 FC members is a fringe minority.

McCaskill has been saved so many times when she was on life support when the Rs shot themselves in the foot.

I get the feeling that the GOP leadership is not getting the message that when they write such wide reaching bills they risk the chance of them not passing.
And from what I see Trump is doing nada to help secure support from the left.

If you see everything as Republican/Dem. Actually, conservative Republicans were the smallest minority voting against the bill and Democrats were the majority voting against the bill.

“If you were in Leadership, what would you have done, if not compromise with all members of the Republican caucus?”

Id have seen that our immigration laws and border were taken care of and that a partial amnesty not be passed until this was done.

Republicans have a hard time with freeloaders except when they are part of their constituency, like farmers, who have a major interest in programs like SNAP. For a long time that rural dependence on urban spending has been an acceptable part of government freeloading that benefits a Republican constituency.

But that arrangement looks like its breaking down, and immigration excuse is an attempt at a cover story to explain to those Republican farmers why the government is taking money from them over immigration, a class of people those Republican farmers are reliant on in addition to crop subsidies, insurance, and social programs like SNAP.

In this exercise, rural Republicans are going to have to start waking up to the fact that the political party they though had their back is sticking a knife in it.

No, if you are honest enough to understand that the House operates as majority rule, which it does. The minority can do nothing that the majority does not approve. Literally nothing. The GOP owns this failure all on their own. There is no passing it off on to the Democrats. Again, the same is not true in the Senate.
