If "gender" is a social construct, then why use the term transgender?

Then a simple "from your link " will suffice in the future. Thank you.

You don’t know what it means, but don’t want to reveal that. That’s why you can’t and won’t define it. It’s just your dog-whistle

Nobody thinks that.

I’ve defined it multiple times, albeit it might have been in one of the other concurrent transgender threads (time for a one and only thread?).

Basically there are several definitions for gender which you can find in the dictionary and I will paraphrase:

  1. Gender as it relates to language and words (el gato vs la gata).
  2. Gender as a synonym for biological sex
  3. Gender as it relates to the actions, mannerisms, appearance, societal role, etc as typically corresponding with a particular biological sex (that’s the social construct one)
  4. Gender as in “gender identity” which is one’s internal personal sense of their gender.

It’s just your dog-whistle

lol, what? A dog-whistle for what exactly?

Those are not definitions of gender.

Do you understand what a definition is?

Start a sentence " Gender is…" and complete it with a grammatically correct complement that accurately describes “gender”.

Are you saying, “Gender is a person’s actions, mannerisms, appearance, and societal role that, within that person’s culture, are generally regarded as healthy for a particular biological sex to display”?
If not, what are you saying?

"Gender is… "

I’m sorry I’ve upset you with my paraphrasing. Just use the dictionary: Gender Definition & Meaning - Merriam-Webster

That to the legalize prepubescent hormones, why couldn’t they just left that out as well as men can now dress as Mrs. Doubtfire and beat up a women out we all get along. It goes from :toilet: to thrashing women and Dr. Mengele like experiments.

We have entered in a whacky world people are taking as serious.
If Dr. Mengele was today living in America “now we take the penis and sew it on the Juden”.

So, you are asserting “Gender is the behavioral, cultural, or psychological traits typically associated with one sex.”

So, you are asserting that you cannot be a Gender. You can only have a gender. And the gender you have at any time changes depending on what behavioural, cultural or psychological traits you are exhibiting at that particular time.

So, we each have mostly a male gender or mostly a female gender… by your preferred definition.

They claim the difference between sex and gender is the difference between physiology and sociology. And yet no matter what the issue is … whether it is one governed by physiology or not … they go with the sociological status.

So pay no attention to the significance of physiological differences in swimming. They will place the confused “trans” person where the social justice warriors demand it be placed.

They did the same with bathrooms… a place that is mandated in public places to meet the physiological needs of people. But funny thing… it was the social status that progs used to say where the confused “trans” person went.

In general, the prog strategy is simply to lie and lie some more.

I don’t understand what you mean by “preferred definition”. I don’t prefer one definition or the other, I use all of them based on context.

I’m not asserting any of the things you think I’m asserting. You can be a gender. That would be your gender identity.

I’m not upset. I’m just keen to see if you can coherently express what you really believe. At present you are using words that may have all kinds of meanings, and you are pretending your particular secret meaning is sensible, without letting anyone know what that meaning is, in order to have its validity tested.

But the definition you offered as yours does not say you can be a gender. You are not your traits. You have gender. You have traits and characteristics and behaviours. By your proferred definition.

Maybe the definition you offered is sloppy and does not accurately state your actual beliefs regarding what gender is. Maybe you could improve it to be more accurate.

Maybe gender is the biological sex to which the behaviours, characteristics and traits of a living being are generally attributed by their own cultural milieu.

Or

Maybe gender is the cultural demographic to which the behaviours, characteristics and traits of a living being are generally attributed by their own cultural milieu. (Since there are supposedly multiple genders beyond male and female)

Those are definitions. The game is context ignored.

 or ignore the context.

People say “gender” because they don’t want to use the icky word “sex”.

Or to pretend sex doesn’t matter.

What does your drivers license say?
Sex or gender?

And Kafka smiles

That’s unlikely. I first encountered the word “gender” back whenever Pokemon Ruby came out. Since “sex” has come to mean “sexual intercourse”, adults didn’t want to use the dirty word around children.

Or are we in agreement?

Which of the 4 in the context of this thread?
