The Ukrainian President who has already seen Trump will cut off aid at the drop of a hate. Oh please.
And the issue is not “exchange of favor” it is the inappropriateness of the request.
As for the President being responsible to “pursue”. What does that mean? For months, there had been documentation that Rudy Giuliani was trying to create a scandal out of nothing around Joe Biden in the Ukraine. The President’s oath of office doe snot require that he lean on foreign governments to support his lawyer’s scandal mongering.
Looking specifically into a political rival, asking a foreign power to do so, using a private non-government lawyer as point man, and trying to cover up the request can most certainly be illegal.
Seeking campaign assistance form a foreign government and making aid that Congress has appropriated dependent on providing that campaign assistance is illegal.
Now we can argue as to what exactly was being sought and there is evidence to be gathered on both sides. That is the basis for an impeachment inquiry.
If Trump were innocent he would welcome this because the evidence will clear his name and humiliate his opponents. The insistence instead on focusing denouncing the opponents (“savages”) and insisting their is no legitimate basis for the inquiry are all signs that Trump is well aware of where the evidence will lead.
