It’s always had a moral element to it. It’s immoral for children to work in factories for example. It’s immoral to refuse service to someone because they are gay and/or black.

The New Deal helped pave the way towards modern liberalism. Modern liberalism and progressivism have always had a lot of crossover.
Morals are relative so its pointless to argue it. I and many others consider it immoral for children to be working in factories instead of learning in school.
Call it whatever you want but today libs are not liberal by any definition.
