How can Kim (or anybody else) trust Trump?

Telling people he was going to build a big, beautiful impenetrable wall that MEXICO WAS PAYING FOR.

They can trust the people of the USA.

The problem with the Iran deal, and TPP, etc… is that they bypassed the treaty clause of the US Constitution, they failed to achieve two-thirds Senate approval, so those presidents bypassed the process. We are not a dictatorship, is a nation signs a treaty with the people, we will honor is. When they only make an agreement with a president, it’s only worth the price of a piece of paper.

Agreements made with a president’s pen and his phone are only binding with that president. you see, that’s what happens when presidents skirt the law, and go extra Constitutional, their acts can be easily undone.

It would seem the President has the power to unilaterally withdraw from a treaty.

Trump did have a seven point health care plan that he released during his campaign, and Congress could have written legislation to follow it.

A simple google search would find it:

Trump releases seven-point health care reform plan

1. Completely repeal Obamacare. Our elected representatives must eliminate the individual mandate. No person should be required to buy insurance unless he or she wants to.

2. Modify existing law that inhibits the sale of health insurance across state lines. As long as the plan purchased complies with state requirements, any vendor ought to be able to offer insurance in any state. By allowing full competition in this market, insurance costs will go down and consumer satisfaction will go up.

3. Allow individuals to fully deduct health insurance premium payments from their tax returns under the current tax system. Businesses are allowed to take these deductions so why wouldn’t Congress allow individuals the same exemptions? As we allow the free market to provide insurance coverage opportunities to companies and individuals, we must also make sure that no one slips through the cracks simply because they cannot afford insurance. We must review basic options for Medicaid and work with states to ensure that those who want healthcare coverage can have it.

4. Allow individuals to use Health Savings Accounts (HSAs). Contributions into HSAs should be tax-free and should be allowed to accumulate. These accounts would become part of the estate of the individual and could be passed on to heirs without fear of any death penalty. These plans should be particularly attractive to young people who are healthy and can afford high-deductible insurance plans. These funds can be used by any member of a family without penalty. The flexibility and security provided by HSAs will be of great benefit to all who participate.

5. Require price transparency from all healthcare providers, especially doctors and healthcare organizations like clinics and hospitals. Individuals should be able to shop to find the best prices for procedures, exams or any other medical-related procedure.

6. Block-grant Medicaid to the states. Nearly every state already offers benefits beyond what is required in the current Medicaid structure. The state governments know their people best and can manage the administration of Medicaid far better without ederal overhead. States will have the incentives to seek out and eliminate fraud, waste and abuse to preserve our precious resources.

7.Remove barriers to entry into free markets for drug providers that offer safe, reliable and cheaper products. Congress will need the courage to step away from the special interests and do what is right for America. Though the pharmaceutical industry is in the private sector, drug companies provide a public service. Allowing consumers access to imported, safe and dependable drugs from overseas will bring more options to consumers.

Which treaty, Constitutionally passed by 2/3 vote by the US Senate has Trump withdrawn from?

I’m not saying he has, but he could.

Lol you’re the one who doesn’t seem to understand what the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty is.

Trump was not elected to make nice with the rest of the world, or kiss it’s collective ass. No more apologies!

I’m glad he has pulled out of TPP. I want NAFTA to be lit on fire, then nuked into oblivion. I didn’t want him to go to G7! If we can get him to kick the UN out of America, We’ll be showing some real progress. We ARE a sovereign nation. We are allowed to change what we don’t like. When trade deals are unfair, they aren’t worth keeping. It’s time to demonstrate again, what a strong US can give to the world, not what the world can drain from a population of beaten down and demoralized citizens with no voice. Trump is our voice. For the first time in a very long time, we actually have someone we sent to Washington who is doing what his constituents want.

I know the deal has already been struck with Kim Jong-Un more than a month ago. I know we have peace in the Korean Peninsula. The swamp is draining. On to the next issue, Mr. Rod Rosenstein, hiding in Canada, searching for an asylum home. Iran being stripped of it allies and it’s financial backing. Israel’s hostile location. Europe corporations meddling in US domestic policy. Other treasonous individuals and +35K sealed indictments. Suicide Watch. Human trafficking. We have so much to wade through, it will be a monumental task to get through it in the next 6 years, even with the American people giving the President our full support.

WWG1WGA!

Trump himself and his sycophants here claimed he was such a great deal-maker he’d have no problem getting a great plan through Congress. A lot of us pointed out that he can’t force members of congress to do anything and there are a lot of varying policy reasons it would be hard to get a Republican bill done but you folks insisted “No no, you’ve never seen a negotiator like Donald Trump as president before.”

Now apparently it’s all just campaign promises and it’s not his fault if Congress doesn’t pass something. Cool.

So you do know that Carter withdrew from the Mutual Defense Treaty with Taiwan.
So Legally the President can as long as Congress and the Senate do not object to it and that is only actual Treaties that passed with 2/3 vote originally.

You seem to be having a hard time with Historical Precedents where Democrats have done things but it is now only an issue because you think Trump MAY do it.

You don’t make any sense. I’m not making any judgements, but pointing out an inconsistency in the other poster’s point.

My interpretation of what he says that agreements with a president (not treaties) aren’t valuable to other countries because they can be easily ended. I’m merely pointing out that even a treaty can be unilaterally ended by a president. There is no difference. They can both be easily undone.

So either way, a treaty or an executive agreement, can be ended by a single person. There is no difference which negates what the other poster was saying.

You are technically still incorrect.
They can not be Unilaterally end Treaties. If the Senate or Congress doesn’t agree with the President trying to end a Treaty they put in place with 2/3 vote then it gets contested by them. Of course none have been actually ended with Contesting.
Carter and Bush Jr. Didn’t have any push back from the Senate or Congress so they were Ended.
So legally we do not know what will actually happen.

Do you have a source that backs up this statement?

Which Statement?
Carter and Bush removing is Fact and Congress and senate didn’t complain so it went thru. LOOK that up yourself.
Nothing in the constitution says the President can or can not Repeal Treaties on his own.
We know actual Treaties have to be signed off with consent of a 2/3 vote so it would apply that the president would need similar consent to repeal an actual Treaty.
You should look up Constitutional Professors and lawyers and read what they say about it. Since many have different views but the all say Congress and the Senate can pass a resolution to keep the USA in. And eventually it would have to go to the Supreme Court.

It is not a Simple YES or NO answer. So in Part he could say we are withdrawing and as long as the Senate and Congress don’t complain then they granted him the power to do so. If they do Complain then he really isn’t doing it Unilaterally.

Again look up the stuff your self. And read thru all the hypotheticals. But then if your thinking about NAFTA that is not an actual treaty but a an agreement where the congress has given the president power to negotiate trade with other countries.

Pulling out of the TPP, Iran Deal, and the Paris Accords were all good for America.

Getting some sort of fair trade with the EU and Canada will be good for America too instead of the one sided trade deals and deficits of the present.

We already run a trade surplus with Canada.

I hate to point out the obvious but if a treaty is signed and ratified by the Senate nobody has to trust the president who negotiated it.

This was a complete surrender to North Korea. To put that country on par with the United States …just for photo ops and distractions from Trump’s Russian treason-gate…

it’s honestly disgraceful that a President of the United States would legitimize a regime in this manner.

What exactly have we surrendered?
