Head of US Cit. and Im. - Statue of Lib. talking about people from Europe

The “suddenly” part is simply the election of a bigot.

Racist comment brings out the usual parsing peanut gallery of apologists. Yawn.

My grandfathers and great grandfathers took that ■■■■ as seriously as a heart attack.

DING DING DING WE HAVE A WINNER

Back before 2016 when I was a Republican, I used to believe that Republicans weren’t actually racist and that was just a liberal talking point.

The last three years have completely disproved that theory.

And it’s revisionist history because Southern Europeans and Eastern Europeans weren’t considered proper white people.

The liberals always forget one line. " Yearning to be free". Voting for big govt Democrats, the tyranny of socialism and arbitrary law enforcement is not yearning to be free. Also libs are dishonest when they treat legal and illegal immigrants as the same.

By this logic, the Statue of Liberty should gve been put in Richmond or Atlanta or Houston.

I bet his did as well…

They also took the privilege of immigrating here seriously. And they took their self-sufficiency seriously. And they didn’t come here looking for government largesse right out of the gate. (Largesse that didn’t even exist at the time, so serious self-sufficiency was paramount.)

PS: I’ll bet that they didn’t even know there was a poem at the base of the statue. And I’ll bet they were willing and ready to satisfy the immigration requirements demanded of them at the dock.

You’d lose your money. One of my great grandfathers walked over the border from Canada and didn’t actually bother to inform anyone. He’d be naturalized later.

Statue… but you knew that.

I love reading the revisionist fiction you guys come up with.

How do you feel about people kneeling during the anthem?

As usual you nailed it.

The promise for immigrants was opportunity, not benefits that would only change their overseers.

But do we have it where we need it? I don’t think the fresh water in the great lakes is doing California, other western states and the southern plains much good.

Bible may have been better

If your concern is for the poor and destitute of the world, there are certainly more effective means of helping them than bringing them here. You can serve a lot more people in situ with the same money. And we’ll never be able to bring more than a teensy tiny fraction of them here. If you really want to help them, help them make their own countries livable.

When have we ever successfully done this?

Yes… seems many are yearning for free stuff, not freedom…

Successfully done what? Helped improve the lives of people in other countries? Too many times to count. Want to help? Go here and give generously
