It was pretty obvious they would let her resign rather than fire her.

As someone who recently got their BA degree (better late then ever) I was a lean mean citing machine and was obsessed with not falling foul of the plagiarism regulations, so its rather galling to see Harvard give her the benefit of the doubt which I doubt they extend such understanding to students.

I bet plagiarism was rife before the advent of software that can detect it.

The challenge with plagiarism is determining when someone is trying to pass someone elses work off as their own or they have genuinely forgotten a citation.
