I say let Bolton testify on the limited subject of what he has already said in the book, impeach Bolton on the basis of his leaking right before his book came out, and then make the argument that even if Trump did say he did not want to give the money unless they investigated Biden, that would still not be impeachable.
Then vote.
As with all things Politifact, it depends on which truth they want to answer. If the question had been did then Senator Biden want to allow new witnesses in the Clinton impeachment trial they would have had to answer with this:
“I think it would be absolutely unfair, contrary to any notion of due process if now, after all the time the House spent, all this voluminous record, they said, ‘By the way, there is Jane Doe or Charlie Doe out there. We never spoke to them. No one has – they weren’t before the House. They weren’t in the House record. We want to call them now,'”
We all know that Trump would not let cabinet members testify to the House because he is terrified of the truth. By asserting executive privilege, he hopes that would lead to a prolonged court battle that could easily run out the clock till after the November election.
Besides, didn’t the Democrats proclaim how saddened, somber and prayerful they were over having to do this? Wasn’t it a matter of truth, justice and the American way? Didn’t they say it was a clear violation of the Constitution??? Didn’t they say it had NOTHING to do with the election??? Wasn’t it urgent due to national security???
“A growing number of Republicans are pointing to President Donald Trump’s threat to invoke executive privilege in order to make their case against subpoenas sought by Democrats for key witnesses and documents, a development that could bolster Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s goal of a swift end to the impeachment trial.”
