I heard this author speak on the radio last night on my way home from work, and downloaded her book on the subject. It’s a fascinating read, and reminded me of a lot of history I’ve forgotten.
I know you are wedded to your simplistic narrative that this is all the fault of “EU Expansionism” and our decision-making to expand NATO.
But this is simply not the whole story.
TL/DR version… Yes we expanded NATO after seemingly promising not to do so…and yes that pissed Yeltsin off to no end.
However, Russian agency was part of the reason expansionism happened as well…most notably, Yeltsin’s prosecution of the First Chechen War in a very brutal manner scared the ■■■■ out of the former Soviet satellite states and led to the increased clamor to break away from the roadmap of the Partnership for Peace and accelerate their entry into NATO.
Not to mention one of the main reasons Putin ended up in power in the first place is because Yeltsin was guilty of a ■■■■ ton of corruption and needed to appoint a successor who would cover up for him (as Putin did by essentially pardoning Yeltsin- amazingly the author found this information in getting communications between Bill Clinton and Boris Yeltsin declassified- in these communications, Yeltsin pretty much admitted he was going to appoint Putin in order to protect himself, his family and his associates in crime- her push to get this info that yielded squawks of protest from Putin’s government- I found that fascinating).
Both Western and Russian leaders screwed up the peace following the Cold War. I know you hate Europe- but your hatred of Europe is not evidence your thesis is correct…it’s only evidence of your bias.
Over simplicity is on your end…failure to see the larger picture. Maybe because you’re over educated who knows. But stop with your ■■■■■■■ insults of I’ll start insulting you.
Proof of your simplification.
And I’m not going to exonerate Europe of their role in all this. Not I will with NATO leaders.
So kiss their asses all you want. I’m not. America first baby.
