"In the 2010 United States Census, 50.5 million Americans (16.3% of the total population) listed themselves as ethnically Hispanic or Latino. Of those, 53.0% (26.7 million) self-identified as racially white. "
In the United States, a white Hispanic or Latino is an individual who is of full or partial Hispanic or Latino descent, the largest group being white Mexican Americans.[citation needed] Although not differentiated in the U.S. Census definition, White Latino Americans may also be defined to include only those who identify as white and either originate from or have descent from countries in Latin America that speak Romance languages such as Brazil, Haiti, and French Guiana.

Maybe that will change after the next census. But until then… majority white. Sorry.
It’s very telling that libs dont like this. They want MORE DIVISION among us… not less. They are trying to do the same with people who come from countries in the Mideast. IT IS LIBS WHO WANT TO DIVIDE US.

What’s wrong with the word?
I just finished this.
True. They once served an actual valuable purpose.
apocalyptic said they were not. I corrected him. there is no horse to beat.
Ah yes the civility of the 1950s. A time when black men were strung up for daring to admire a pretty white woman.
Nice! I was in Medellin about a month ago. Loved it!

I would agree there is levels to ignorance and racism… and this would be pretty low on the list. However I am not for giving an inch on stuff like this. Nope not onnnnne inch.
If you are white, Don’t say this to a black person period. End of story. It isn’t hard.
Don’t call a grown black man “boy”
Don’t call any black person the N word… “a” or “er” doesn’t matter
Don’t say any black person is out of their “cotton picking mind”
Don’t associate liking friend chicken and watermelon to black people only
Don’t call our hair “nappy”
Don’t generalize us by calling us “lazy”
Don’t ask why you can’t say any of the above
There I just gave every white person a cheat sheet as to what is offensive to black people. It is not a comprehensive list, but it is a great start!
Thanks for the reminder. I’ve always heard the phrase “cotton-picking” used in the context of one white person talking to another and haven’t had much cause to think about its racial connotations until now.
It’s kinda like, in my family, the men often addressed each other as “Chief.” It was so ingrained in me that I didn’t even think about it until I was talking with a Native American friend and another friend later told me it was a total dick move to call him, “Chief.”
I’ve since stopped using the word with anyone. It’s just easier that way.
So what this all seems to be coming down to is that you can be relaxed with people of your own race but very careful when you are around people of another race.
Does anyone see a social problem with this?

I disagree in this instance. “You’re out of your cotton-picking mind” is a phrase that I’ve heard all my life. At this point in time there’s nothing racial about it unless someone wants to make something racial about it. In the same way very few people today know that to gyp someone refers to gypsies stealing, for example.
Guess you would have to be black and have had ancestors forced against their will to pick cotton.
I guess some things are to difficult for you
Or… you can just not be a racist ahole in all aspects of your life? How does that sound?

Your list is pretty obvious. I was thinking more of the terms “cotton picking” and “chief” which aren’t automatically associated with race when you hear them (which I rarely do, actually).
Been there before, a lot has changed since the 90’s…a lot.
