I thought this video is ironic. Protestors block a highway in DC to protest drilling. Meanwhile first two cars were…and you guess it are Tesla’s. And few cars back there was another Tesla. Not sure if any other vehicles were electric or hybrid.
We spent last few weeks looking for a new car. i really wanted an EV but the price tags were out of my price range. Even with a hefty deposit. I know I know how irresponsible for me to finance a car….
Ended up buying a gas guzzling SUV LOL.
Good for you.
Refusing to buy the products of slave labor child labor etc should not just be a talking point.
Makes sense, I have gone full solar and produce surplus electricity and I still wouldn’t buy an EV.
Interesting article on snopes which gives a balanced view on the situation with cobalt and lithium.
Seems we are more likely to be indirectly supporting child labour by using a smartphone or laptop than purchasing an EV.
Child labor is abhorrent but the challenge is how do we make a stand in our lives? Am I supposed to refuse to work for any company that would require me to use a laptop or have employees that utilize laptops?
It’s the hypocrisy and virtue signaling for me.
Little black kids slave for your batteries, little muslim kids slave for your phones.
We just have to accept the new normal that any leftist policy or pursuit involves the enslavement of little children. Same ■■■■ different century. ![]()
I think its less a leftist issue and more a capitalist issue. Challenge is we dont have a better system so we have to work towards doing our best to eliminate the more insidious elements that capitalism creates.
Though to be honest any system involving humans is going to have areas and elements that are evil such as child labor.
I dont have any answers and to a degree we are all complicit.
It’s the hypocrisy and virtue signaling for me.
Thats a fair point.
LOL
“Snopes” and “balanced view” in the same paragraph. Perhaps you should have reworded that.
The snopes article finds a sentence from the most extreme EV article it can ineffectively disputes it (not balance) and then adds a swipe at militaries and non EV industries (such as airbags) pointing out that they also use cobalt.
Children working in cobalt mines is bad.
Cobalt intensive industries are bad.
We should immediately slow the growth of all cobalt intensive industries and make it clear to cobalt miners that we are willing to pay more but they must stop employing child miners.
A very large portion of our cobalt use comes about because of lefty mandates
and the child-exploiting cobalt mines are in the lefty Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). The blind eye of the left is huge.
LOL

Snopes is hard core lefty.
Snopes is hard core lefty.
Exactly.
@Nemesis is pretty cool but choice of “balanced” as a adjective is probably not carefully chosen.
I disagree that its not balanced. It talks about all the industries that utilize cobalt.
The question they asked was “Are Child Miners Exploited to Manufacture Electric Car Batteries?”
They could have just said yes they are but snopes provides its reasoning and as part of that they have to discuss other industries. I did not take their mention of the military as a swipe at them but more an effort to educate the reader that cobalt is used in many different industries. It does not justify the use of cobalt but that was not the purpose of the article.
I think we can all agree that child labour in mines is not acceptable and nations that rely heavily on cobalt need to take a stronger stand as you said.
The question they asked was“Are Child Miners Exploited to Manufacture Electric Car Batteries?”
Although the article took a swipe at the (US) military and industry the accurate answer to that question is “Yes, yes absolutely yes.”
Snopes did not provide balance “Well sort of. The question must be answered both ‘yes’ and 'no” because there is no yes and no to provide here. the accusation is true. It is a total homerun. There is no balance to provide.
Cobalt comes from child laborers who have no choice.
Solar panels come from enslaved adult Uyghurs who have no choice.
airbags, EVS and solar panels are today what cotton was 2 centuries ago. We should be trying to minimize those things not indoctrinate our children to maximize them
Snopes tries to say “no” or “only halfway” falls on his face, and tries to change the subject by taking a swipe at two targets lefties love to take swipes at.
I dont have any answers and to a degree we are all complicit.
All that matters is everyone using slave-provided commodities (that they don’t actually need for survival) come to terms and accept the fact that slaves make all their conveniences a reality, and that government is mandating it, with feverish leftist support. ![]()
Grid problems could be fixed with nuclear waste using technology from the 60’s.
People need to stop being the ones to come up with bright ideas and start being the ones to dig up the technology already in existence.
I think its less a leftist issue and more a capitalist issue.
This.
Challenge is we dont have a better system so we have to work towards doing our best to eliminate the more insidious elements that capitalism creates.
Capitalism didn’t “create” this issue. Government is involved in every step of this mess.
What’s your alternative?
