Does Trump Have the Authority to "Unleash Strikes" on US Territory?

FNC Link

“And they will be hit on land also,” he said.

Pressed on whether he has legal authority to unleash strikes on drug smugglers on U.S. territory, Trump answered confidently, “Yes, we do.”

The context of that claim was the extrajudicial executions in international waters by the US military or the CIA.

Is Trump correct, does he have the authority to use the military/CIA to “strike” targets on land in US territory and conduct extrajudicial executions?

  • Yes
  • No
  • No, but it needs to be done.

If you believe he does, please cite the statute that gives him that authority.

Can I get extra butter on my popcorn for this one?

I was beginning to think I had posted it in invisible ink.

Absolutely not. And I hope reasonable people feel the same way. They need to quit acting like we are in the World in Conflict universe and there are millions of Soviet soldiers just all over the place occupying every US building.

There is an argument for him having the authority, its valid, but its a stretch and gets stretchier every day the Congress does not authorize military action against those the President has declared are invading or conducting incursions into the US. I believe a proper reading of the WPA would mean there is a sunset on his constitutional authority sans Congressional action. That of course begs the question, is the clock reset with each new incursion?

So the answer is, it depends on the totality of the circumstances.

The biggest question however, is even if he has the authority… why do it? We have law enforcement.

Ice is buying missile warheads. Gotta wonder why.

Does it even matter anymore?

No, that is what law enforcement is for.

Unfortunately the problem is people voted for this. All of this was outlined in Project 2025 by Trump’s besties from the Trump 1.0 administration, and it was pretty much visible for anyone to see. So anyone voting for Trump voted for this.

I personally think it’s unconstitutional and thus voted no, both on this poll and on my ballot last November. Unfortunately, people like me were in the minority. Hopefully, after seeing the crap Trump is pulling now, people will start to come around and vote differently - IF we even get elections going forward. (and at this point, I’m thinking that’s a big IF).

Yet another narrative born completely within the confines of the imagination for the yo-yo’s to be protesting.

Leftists are the modern day Man of La Mancha chasing thise windmills

Only the leftists build their own windmills, call them dragons, then start fighting them.

Come on dude, this is over the top for you. What actual evidence do you have that shows this would happen???

No. I mean who’s going to stop him? He’d say it’s an official act, the Supremes have his back, and congress is servile and supine

As to the OP, wouldn’t either a state of emergency or the insurrection act suffice?

Why?

:violin:
If it is because of a sluggish response to your question doesn’t that give you a pause and a hint that maybe the question you asked is, or it should be, not asked at all?
Why do you think there is no response from folks on the Right?

Russians are maybe a whole lot of 5 % total of America’s problems now.
Our big problems are out-of-control Democrats and their open attack on the America as she was founded.
There is a domestic and foreign enemy that works on killing the golden goose at any cost.

The left is really big on feelings.

Would it help if he changed the name back to the Department of Defense?

I’d rather like " Military Headquarters "
Department of war sounds like there is a war all the time that we’re fighting.
Unless Trump thinks we’re at war with a domestic enemy and it will go on for a long time.

Every lib showed up for their new poll master.
