A majority in the US doesn’t necessarily mean a majority in every state. You also have to pay particular intention to the polling questions because most people don’t have an all or nothing opinion on abortion rights. There are folks who believe it should be illegal for rape and incest (though frankly I think people who claim to support keeping abortion legal for just these reasons but otherwise believe it should be illegal because they care about the life of the fetus are being hypocritical) and there are folks who believe it should be legal up to later terms in the pregnancy. It’s really all over the map.
Well I would be worried about that a bit, if the left hadn’t gone insane and started supporting mutilating children and inflation wasn’t destroying people. They already gave us replacement issues.
Here is my take on all this. This was and always has been a state issue IMO. Now having said that I’m not sure I want my state banning abortions…I don’t even want them to have a say concerning my body.
Same thing about gay marriage. I believe marriage is between man and a woman. But do you want the state taking sides? I’m not sure I want that either.
Libs here have no problem states or federal government taking sides on social issues…as long as it’s their side.
This is a good post except for the last sentence. It should be, “Most Americans have no problem with states or the federal government taking sides on social issues…as long as it’s their side.”
That’s all well and good but with things like gay marriage or abortion its not as simple as state rights because well the federal government intersects in several scenarios which would conflict with state law.
