Trump attacked Syria in 2017, without congressional approval. The president has that authority in emergency situations. Taking out Fordow would certainly qualify.
If this was as cut and dried as you make it out to be, why would lawmakers feel the need to introduce a resolution attempting to prevent Trump from intervening?
It was in response to a chemical attack. This would be a unilateral unprovoked strike against a sovereign nation. I think comparing the two is a stretch.
Trump attacked the Sovreign nation of Syria. They are very much the same. In the case of Syria the perceived threat was chemical weapons. In the case of Iran, the perceived threat would be nuclear weapons.
Obviously, we can continue to debate this, but it will have no bearing. Should Trump decide to deploy GRU-57 bunker busters against Fordow, it will happen.
The War Powers Act (50 USC ch 33) only requires the President to notify Congress within 48 hours of committing armed forces to military action and forbids armed forces from remaining for more than 60 days, with a further 30-day withdrawal period, without congressional authorization for use of military force or a declaration of war by the United States. Authorization of a B2 raid to drop one big bomb on Iran without Congressional approval is well within his power.
While I tend to back some of the opinions you have on the Ukraine -Russian war the part that it’s a stalemate bloodbath on both sides and continuing the death is pointless.
What’s happening between Israel an Iran is a one sided ass kicking. I think the whole world is surprised how quickly Israel overcame Irans air defense. At this point, all propaganda aside what can Iran do other than lose? Israel jets are flying with impunity over Tehran.
That being said, I wish for peace and do not want America to get involved past arming. But to think Iran has a chance is naive at this point they are literally running low on launchers, all the factories that make new ones are being blown up. Iran should broker for peace and allow and agency to stay in their country to make sure they don’t try and create nuclear weapons.
Regardless of which side one is for most of the world does not think Iran having nuclear weapons is positive.
So with the very real possibility of the US attacking Iran, if the goalposts begin to move again and the US starts talking about enforcing a “regime change” would anyone seriously support that?
Admit it, a little part of you would love to see that bunker buster take out Natanz also. Even if you didn’t like anything else, that part would kick ass and you know it.
The Israelis are kicking their asses left and right and the U.S. hasn’t even gotten involved directly. Yeah, so where are they? They’re nowhere! How about China? Nowhere! How about Russia? Nowhere! What happened to World War III? There is no World War III! They all sound like a bunch of Marxist Islamists. They don’t sound like patriotic Americans!
Let me be clear. This is good versus evil. You’re either a patriotic American who’s gonna get behind the president of the United States – the commander-in-chief, or you’re not!
