You are absolutely spot on, it is incredibly easy for any nation to build a crude nuclear device but with Iran specifically what would be their reason to do this apart from proving they can?

That isn’t remotely accurate. If it were, every two-bit dictator would have one.

If they are committed to destroying Israel why would they hold on to the device? Why not use it? There is a prevailing opinion that Irans religious leaders would immediately use a nuclear device if they had one so by that logic they either do not have one or not as far gone as we may think.

Using it as a bargaining chip makes no sense because as soon as Israel and the US discovered this they would take steps to nullify it. Would not Iran announce it to the world as a show of force?

But then again I am trying to apply logic to a regime where logic does not necessarily apply.

Iran was close, but not close enough. Israel’s recent actions killed any chance Iran will be able to obtain nuclear weapons.

The big question is whether US jets will end up bombing Iran. Israel is saying it will fight until the perceived threat are destroyed, but it is highly unlikely that the destruction of deep Iranian underground bunkers is possible by Israeli forces alone.

The only remaining facility of any consequence is Fordow.

I see two options with that remaining facility. Either Iran can agree to voluntarily remove the centrifuges and destroy them, or the US can destroy the facility with GBU-57 bunker buster bombs.

If Trump allows the war between Israel and Iran to continue without direct US attacks, the likely result is that Israel will suffer severe damage from Iranian missiles and drones, while the Iranian bunkers remain intact. That could eventually result in a path to a negotiated settlement.

Thus far more than 1,000 missiles have been launched towards Israel. 95% of them have been intercepted. Iran is quickly running out of missiles, and with destruction of the factories to build new ones, that will end Iran’s threat to Israel. We are likely days away from that happening.

As I stated in my earlier comment, Fordow is the only remaining underground facility of consequence. One way or another enrichment in that facility will cease.

Trump hints at a much bigger plan than a cease fire. He also is now boldly stating that Iran can’t have nuclear weapons.

A simple cease fire maintains the status quo, giving Iran a big advantage in that it doesn’t really have to give up its nuclear ambitions. I don’t believe Israel would agree to that.

A much bigger plan, in my opinion would be the wholesale elimination of any possibility Iran gets a nuclear weapon. That entails Iran agreeing to immediately begin dismantling and destroying its capabilities. Failure to agree would provide a green light for the US to step in with GBU-57 bunker busters to destroy any underground enrichment facilities.

That coupled with Iran running out of missiles capable of reaching Israel, would essentially end the conflict.

There is no war between Iran and the US. The US frequently takes quick military action in foreign countries, such as Yemen, Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, etc… Any action taken in Iran would be of a similar nature. No congressional approval is required.

The answer to that is simple. A nuclear “dirty bomb” does not kill outright. If Iran deployed such a weapon on Israel, it would give Israel both the time and the impetus to completely destroy Iran. The Ayatollahs may be fanatics, but they are not stupid.

No this is absolutely not the same.

Actions taken in those countries were against groups not affiliated with a government entity. Though Syria was def a stretch but still.

This would be an attack on a sovereign nation.
