Did Cuomo botch the COVID response for the whole country?

Interesting.

Are you serious? Dr. Howard Zucker, the commissioner, is appointed by and takes orders from Cuomo.

Yeah, what you just said is patently false according to this article:

On top of its strict rules preventing people infected with the virus from coming on board, the Navy is also refusing to treat a host of other conditions. Guidelines disseminated to hospitals included a list of 49 medical conditions that would exclude a patient from admittance to the ship.
Late Thursday, Governor Andrew M. Cuomo of New York reached an agreement with Mr. Trump to bring Covid patients to the Javits Convention Center in Manhattan, another alternative site operated by the military, with 2,500 hospital beds.

“I asked President Trump this morning to consider the request and the urgency of the matter, and the President has just informed me that he granted New York’s request,” Mr. Cuomo said in a statement.
There was no word about doing the same with the U.S.N.S. Comfort.
Capt. Patrick Amersbach, the commanding officer of the medical personnel aboard the Comfort, said at a news conference that, for now, his orders were to accept only patients who had tested negative for the virus. If ordered to accept coronavirus patients, he said, the ship could be reconfigured to make that happen.

Sounds to me like Trump dropped the ball and that you agree. Cuomo is just in charge of his state, Trump is responsible for the entire United States.

Why didn’t the President do his job? Now we all pay for it.

And so that means that you think that the doctor did not do his job? That the whole report should be dismissed? There will be a state legislature review of the findings. And Republicans in Congress that sit on the House subcommittee on the COVID crisis have requested all of the information and data regarding his order. Perhaps that will help to verify or not the findings in the report.

So until such time as it is verified, given the topic at hand, namely the culpability of Cuomo, the study has to be recognized as a product of the same authority who sent people to nursing homes and therefore suspect as a study conducted by those who have a conflict of interests.

Is that not obvious to you?

may I suggest that you read the Constitution and tbe parts about who has power over what.

Besides the constitutionality issues, all states are different and require different guidelines for health reasons.

That argument sounds a lot like Joe Biden’s comments on the China travel ban. Biden complained that the restrictions on travel from China were useless “hysteria” and “xenophobia” when Trump announced them. A few weeks later Biden and his allies complained that Trump should have acted sooner.

If Trump had quarantined the New York area over Cuomo’s strenuous objections, Democrats would have probably responded with another impeachment trial for abuse of power, endless court challenges, and possibly violent protests and/or civil disobedience. The results could easily have been more distractions and more deaths than what happened.

Cuomo is last person to lecture anyone about failure of Covid response. He killed tens of thousands of people in his state needlessly.

They can’t seem to control themselves.

That report was flawed.

It stated that the big spike in infections came from staff workers, and there was good evidence for that, to be sure…and this spike came before hospitalized people were being sent back to nursing homes. So far so good.

What the report DIDN’T do was definitively show there wasn’t a second spike that happened after the patients started coming back. They didn’t even try to investigate to see if there was a second spike or not.

The report simply said “Look at this first spike and ignore the fact that we didn’t even look to see if the patients themselves caused a second spike!”

That’s piss poor.

How did the staff workers get infected?

Good point. The second spike information would be useful.

Hard to know since there was little to no contact testing at the time. I believe a lot of spread was on the subway and buses. It took NYC some time to figure out how to disinfect them. And then they just did it overnight. I saw some pictures of subway cars packed with hardly no one wearing masks. There were so many folks that were deemed essential workers. And from what I heard, NYC made the mistake of not staggering work hours to cut down on the numbers taking public transportation per hour.

They all have at least one coincidence in common.

Not “probably”. For sure.

It is even worse than that; Zucker appears to be the official who made the decision to force nursing homes to accept coronavirus patients. Cuomo appeared to be ignorant of the decision back in April and directed the question to Zucker:

The idea that Zucker is heading the investigation of Zucker’s own decision is either incredibly stupid or a blatant coverup.

yeah… hilarious that the lib here was citing zucker as proof that it was OK.

Yes, and the New York policy that required nursing homes to admit infected patients was in apparent violation of federal guidelines.

Here is an earlier thread that documents the nursing home issue:

Of course if Trump had tried to force New York to follow the federal guidelines, Democrats would have called it abuse of power and pushed another impeachment. That is what they call chutzpah.

Or just plain deception
