Yesterday I bought a ■■■■■■■■ of groceries at the market. I paid with a credit card. I didn’t need to show any ID.
Then I went to the farm stand and bought fresh fruit & veggies. They don’t take credit cards - only cash or a check. I paid with a check. No ID asked for.
I write checks to my hair stylist, my lawn guy and my cleaning person.
When I go to vote in my state, all I have to do is sign in next to my name in the register book. No ID needed.
It’s been a very long time since I registered to vote last, as we moved 28 years ago. I know one must show at least something that proves where you live - like a utility bill, for example.
You do not need a photo ID to register to vote in NYS
“We’ll try to check your identity before Election Day, through the DMV number (driver’s license number or non-driver ID number), or the last four digits of your social security number, which you’ll fill in below.”
“If you do not have a DMV or social security number, you may use a valid photo ID, a current utility bill, bank statement, paycheck, government check or some other government document that shows your name and address. You may include a copy of one of those types of ID with this form— be sure to tape the sides of the form closed.”
